OK, so my new web-TV site is almost ready to be launched. With Dash Media Player and FlashVideo. Amazing modules!

However, I'm struggling to find a way to make good flash-files suitable for Dash Media Player. I will try to describe with a couple of examples:

1)
* I upload a .mov file and let FlashVideo convert it with the default ffmpeg command:
-i @input -vcodec flv -f flv -r 29.97 -s 320x180 -aspect 16:9 -b 300kb -g 160 -cmp dct -subcmp dct -mbd 2 -flags +aic+cbp+mv0+mv4 -trellis 1 -ac 1 -ar 22050 -ab 56kb @output
* The resulting .flv is played nicely in DashPlayer. However, the file does not start playing until it is 100% buffered

2)
* I take the same .mov file and convert it on my local computer with WinFF using the same ffmpeg command as above. When uploading the resulting .flv FlashVideo does not convert since it's already a flash (it just creates the thumb). But now the file starts playing immediately when buffering

Question 1:
* What could cause this? Could there be differences in how ffmpeg on my shared linux hosting works compared to my local windows version?

Question 2:
* I'd like to see some examples of ffmpeg commands that make a .flv suitable for DashPlayer (different sizes, bitrates etc). I hope some users out there are willing to share :)

Thanks
Roald

Here is my suggestion...

Unless you are having your users upload videos, I would just disable the FlashVideo module and let the Dash Media Player play the MOV files native. This will give you better quality. The main reason to have FlashVideo installed is to allow automatic conversion of the videos for users who try to upload all different kinds of formats.

This is what I would do..

Hope this helps.

Travis.
