merlinofchaos commentedCan you provide an export of the no longer working variant?

katannshaw commentedI'm a newbie, so please bear with me.
My install: Drupal 7.2/IIS 7.5/SQL Server 2008 Express (Commerce Guys install from http://www.microsoft.com/web/drupal)
I had this same issue today when attempting to update my modules through the Drupal 7's admin interface. Luckily I'm still in the beginning stages of development on my local machine.
After attempting to update 5 modules including CTools, my Drupal site crashed. I looked within my IIS Manager, and PHPFastCGI was gone, ISAPI Rewrite and CGI were disabled. I also noticed that there were a lot of missing files within the ctools folder within the modules directory.
To resolve this issue, I had to enable ISAPI Rewrite and CGI, set up PHPFastCGI again, re-download CTools 7.x-1.0-rc2 directly from the main module page, and copy that version over the partial ctools folder. Once I did that, my site came back up in maintenance mode, and I received this error:
"Panels is enabled but CTools is out of date. All Panels modules are disabled until CTools is updated. See the status page for more information."
I've also attached the error log that I received. At this point, I'm not sure how to proceed. Thanks for any help.

merlinofchaos commentedThat error log indicates something has really messed up your installation:
[28-Feb-2012 14:49:08 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Class 'SelectQueryExtender' not found in C:\Users\MYUSERNAME\Documents\My Web Sites\Drupal 7.2 Developer release\includes\pager.inc on line 15That's totally core Drupal and something is actually missing. This might be due to the class registry being broken. If it is merely class registry being broken, update.php might fix this.
However, ti's probably a result of this error:
[28-Feb-2012 20:45:10 UTC] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_DOUBLE_ARROW in C:\Users\MYUSERNAME\Documents\My Web Sites\Drupal 7.2 Developer release\includes\database\sqlsrv\database.inc on line 50That indicates the file has probably become corrupt. This kind of thing might happen if a bad git pull caused a merge? I don't know. You should reinstall the files from source, though.
"Panels is enabled but CTools is out of date. All Panels modules are disabled until CTools is updated. See the status page for more information."This might indicate that CTools is somehow not actually enabled. That would match a missing ctools_include that you've got in the error log -- so perhaps enabling CTools again from the modules page (or via drush) will be necessary.
Whatever happened, this is not just from updating CTools. Something else went drastically wrong for you.

katannshaw commentedThank you for the quick reply merlinofchaos.
I'm not using git yet, so a git merge wouldn't have caused this. Everything was working fine until I tried to update the modules; I never received any other errors on the Reports page. Even though I received the "Panels is enabled..." message, CTools is enabled along with Panels on the modules page, which is why I didn't understand why I received that error.
Reinstalling the files from the source may have to be the way I go, but I'll make sure the back everything up beforehand:)
I appreciate your time!

alinag commentedSorry for this late response, I was away due to personal reasons.
Here it is the variant. The problem is still there even with 7.x-1.0
