I think this module meets several needs which Mail Logger does not meet, and I would like to take over the maintenance of this name space. If you are okay with that, let's switch the maintainer to me, so I can release what I have developed. Thanks!

Do you know how to make the beta release appear on the project page? I have a beta release for 1.2, but it only show up if you click the "View all releases" link.

It's the way release system works, module page does not list non official release when there is a stable release for that version. have a look at this http://drupal.org/node/647428#comment-2324422
IMHO you don't need to worry about it because most users usually use update status module now days. so current module users will notice the existence of new unstable releases.
And it's better for new users to start with stable versions.
