this moude trigger effect of toggled controlled fields fails completly under ie7 compatibility mode

I have implemented an external javascript to cover me up as follows:

	if($.browser.msie())

		{
			 // alert(document.documentMode);
			$('#debug_roles').append("<br> IE Compatibility Mode: ("+document.documentMode+")");
			//Sexy.alert('You are using the browser: ' + $.browser.browser())
			$.pseudoFocus();

			if(document.documentMode == 7)
				{
					function toggle_delegation_controlled_fields(){

						var approver_status	= $("#edit-field-on-behalf-enable-value").val(); alert(approver_status);

						if(approver_status == 'No')
						{
							$("#conditional-field-on-behalf-of-uid").hide();
							$("#edit-field-alter-extra-approval-uid-uid-wrapper").hide();

							}
						else
						{
							$("#conditional-field-on-behalf-of-uid").show();
							$("#edit-field-alter-extra-approval-uid-uid-wrapper").show();
						}

						var approver_status	= $("#conditional-field-on-behalf-of-uid").val();
					}

					toggle_delegation_controlled_fields()

					$("select[id *= edit-field-on-behalf-enable-value]").change( 	function() {  toggle_delegation_controlled_fields();	});

				}

		}

I have made use of this script as well for extended browser detection:

Best Regards

I think nowadays it is sufficient to only support IE versions >= 8. The last IE version on WinXP is and will ever be 8 so this version should still work. But supporting older versions does not seem the effort being worth. Windows itself no longer supports older versions so why should we?

Unfortunately, numerous large companies still utilize IE6 and 7 (some, for example, still use the beast because of legacy systems they built nearly ten years ago and can't migrate away very easily). It's sad, but the reality of doing business with very large entities.

I have one client in particular that requires IE7 compatibility for a very famous financial services firm that only uses IE7. One among many out there, unfortunately.

I'm not sure how this external script would do the trick... Any ideas as to how this script might be adjusted into a fix that would not require calling every conditional field's css id?
