I am using Membership Entity module and Membership Entity Commerce to create a membership based site. I just landed on this module and not sure what it is exactly. Is it an alternative to these modules?

This module can sell more than just roles. Licenses can do anything when activated. Modules exist currently for licenses for OG group memberships, or for setting values on entities.
