can we have storage api (https://drupal.org/project/storage_api) integration?

we're planning to use a different server for serving our files.

Just published 7.x-2.x (see https://drupal.org/node/1395488#comment-7658191) which allows this.

Keep in mind that storage_api has a known incompatibility with file_entity at the moment (#1138052: File entity module compatibility), so you need to choose one or another (none of this is commerce_file's business).
