auctions need to have an starting price so you should add a field to set it, just use the product price as a starting price... or even better...
add a "Starting price" and set the "product price" as the default value.

You're right, currently after the auction is finalized, product price is updated to the highest bid amount and I don't keep the starting price.

To see the result, deselect current auction display node types in commerce auction configuration form, save, and select them again so that the new field is added to the auction display types.

There's no way to deselect current auction display without selecting sth else because there's no option(or sth like that)...
I had to reinstall everything anyway.
This works.
