Inconsistency for payment transaction "method" field

I was unable to reproduce this on a current install of commerce, using the example payment method. I would guess this has either been fixed, or its an issue with the gateway module.

I'm having exactly this same issue -- it shows Unknown for all payment types we have enabled, including Check (we used the commerce_cheque module but just found-and-replaced the name in the module code to the American spelling) and Authorize.net (which we didn't modify at all), so I don't think it's an issue specific to one payment module.

BTW, why would it be an issue with the gateway module? It appears from the detail view that the payment method is being recorded correctly. In fact, I have looked in the commerce_payment_transaction table, and the correct methods stored in there for every row.

Wouldn't this be some kind of php coding error or other issue that is just simply failing to present the correct data that is in the database to the GUI?

It could be a coding error, but as of yet we haven't been able to reproduce this with any of the payment modules we have. : P

What is the actual value of your transaction's payment_method column in the database? I've just tested this fine with the Example payment method and Authorize.Net. The problem is visible on line 35 of commerce_payment_handler_field_payment_method.inc where you can see that it tries to load the payment method. If it can't, it says "Unknown." Maybe you can add a debug message at line 35 that prints out the $value it's trying to use for the payment method load.

We are experiencing the same error but only for one of our payment methods (Sagepay)

On these orders we are receiving Unknown as the payment method but the column in the database does state 'commerce_sagepay'.

If someone can still reproduce this, can you please provide the debug info described by Ryan in #5?

To be clear, we need this in commerce_payment_handler_field_payment_method.inc:

For me, it eventually just started working -- with no rhyme or reason that I could detect. By now, I'm at Commerce 7.x-1.1, with the latest version of payment modules as well. All modules appear to report their payment method, including Authorize.net, PayPal, and 2 custom modules I built to record payments by Check and Cash.

Thanks for keeping up with this and trying to get this resolved; unfortunately I can't offer any insight (and fortunately for me it's a moot issue for me).

I have same problem before but I figure out that I used payment method base as the method id when I try to create a new payment transaction record.

No need to reopen this if you simply weren't using the API function properly. : )
