First of all, I'm new to drupal so this might be a beginner's mistake.

I have installed a vanilla ubuntu 16.04 machine. I installed all the dependencies for drupal including mysql and apache2.

I generated a self-signed certificate for apache.

I installed cod-7.x-1.4 by downloading from https://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects/cod-7.x-1.4-core.tar.gz

What I did is to basically install the drupal7 package included with ubuntu and then replace the apache2 configuration to point to cod instead (I also made sure that the db configuration was pointing to the right place).

I ran install.php and everything worked ok.

After configuring the site I only get a title page, and if I click on any link I get a 404 back.

The site can be inspected here: https://si-unconf.northeurope.cloudapp.azure.com/

I can provide logs and all the info that is required.

After much debugging (sorry, I'm not good at web server configurations I just needed a system to manage a conference), I found out that this is not related to drupal but to the apache configuration.

It would be nice to include a section for beginners like me so we don't go around fixing problems that are not problems.

Closing this.
