I just completed a Drupal site that is also for conference registrations, but the client bailed at the last minute. Some of the problems I could not solve:
1. Ability to allow one guest add-in and pay for other family members, without profiles for each all in one PayPal transaction.
2. Real-time, comprehensive list of attendees, mixing free and paid, etc. With all of their details, names age amount paid.
3. Ability for unassisted onsite self-registration/payment.
4. Ability to print one off name badges on-site at the registration desk, with resorting to export excel, etc.
5. Easy enough for a grandmother to use, they want to be able to type in a name, add a credit card #, print a badge and be on their way.

Does COD make this possible as it stands now?

3. Leave a tablet / laptop with the website open?
4. Different groups such as linuxfest have done this and they are working on getting it into 7.x
5. Might not be that simple.
