Is it possible to put zoomed image in an overlay with set size?

I can not get cloud zoom to follow the sizes entered in Zoom position width and height. Also the setup seems a little messy..... I mean, it is not clear really how the options will work given that it depends so much on the page.

So I'm wondering if a better approach is to first have cloud zoom create a lightbox style overlay, and then put the zoomed image in that? Without this I don't see this working well, unless the page template includes an empty element just for the zoom (which is difficult considering it will create an empty space and odd layout).
