Could you please support Retina Images module or support this technique directly, because it is really elegant way how to deal with high resolution displays?

I don't see why the Retina Images module wouldn't work with the module as is right now. It just "doubles" image styles' image size, and cloud zoom uses image styles.

Aside from that, I don't think that's the proper way to support high dpi images according to current-day standards, so closing this as won't fix.
