I am using durpal method 1

I realize bootstrap3.0 requires less 1.6 or higher should be documented in the Docs, It took me a while and with some help from stackoverflow to realize this.

When I compile i get series of variable undefined, I wonder if the variable.less is from a different version?

//Bootstrap variable missing
@blockquote-font-size
@kbd-color
@kbd-bg

I manually entered value to these variable but more undefined variable keep surfacing.

There are more, I just didn't bother to continue compiling.

I want to know if its my mistake or a bug.

Hi ohnoo,
(if I understand your problem correctly)
what you need to do is to take the "variables.less" from the bootstrap original files and replace the one in the Drupal Booststrap theme.
my_subtheme/less/variables.less

I ran into this myself yesterday. It seems the Drupal theme isn't up to date with very latest changes in Bootstrap. Hence the error. The variables have been renamed in Bootstrap.

This has already been fixed in 7.x-3.x-dev (see related issue).

It sounds like you are using 7.x-3.0. This release, unfortunately, caused /bootstrap_subtheme/less/variables.less file was broken out of the box do to an oversight with https://github.com/twbs/bootstrap/blob/v3.0.0/less/variables.less

Regardless, I would strongly recommend trying 7.x-3.1-beta1 instead:
