I would love to use your module, it is excactly what I am looking for! But unfortunately after configuration of some background images (website default, content type default, specific for individual content), no css is generated in files/background_image/css although the corresponding image files can be found in the directory files/backgrond_images.
I installed version 2.0.0, the actual 2.0.x dev version and the 1.5 version with composer. And I tested your module with a custom but also with the bootstrap theme. Same result. The browser console reports a 404 after trying to load the background_image css file. The css directory stays empty.

rex.barkdoll commentedI'm having the same experience, but I'm getting a 403 error.
website.com/:14 GET https://s3.amazonaws.com/website.com/files/background_image/css/1/s3/8FztOc-pjv2LOoxNXWC0F05Tpa5PP9l_4qBEMTgRD5k.css?qmf0fj net::ERR_ABORTED 403 (Forbidden)I am using the s3fs module to store my files in the S3 cloud, so that may be part of it, but there's no CSS file being generated in my local site nor in the S3 cloud.

kopfduenger commentedHi,
FYI: I solved my problem by switching to another module (Simple Background Image Formatter, https://www.drupal.org/project/background_image_formatter) that worked for me.
In case you are interested in this other module, here the format settings (node display settings) I used for the bg image field:
- Output To: Write background-image to CSS-selector
- CSS Selector: custom css class of the container in my template the bg image is attached to
Good luck!
