Not sure if I'm using this right, or indeed how to integrate this correctly with content_profile at the moment, but...

I have a load content_profile fields on my registration form - the form appears ok. However, when I save the new node/user, I get:

Your password and further instructions have been sent to your e-mail address.

On the same node/user save, the user is created, but the role is not assigned. Perhaps this is associated with http://drupal.org/node/320564 ?

Do you using 'Content Profile' module as well?
If yes, then it can be related to this module: http://drupal.org/node/308442
