Is it possible to allow the user to update their roles in their profile after signup? If not, this would be a great feature to have.

updating once profile... that is what your asking for? This feature is in D6 already.. correct?
I don't know D5 very well, hardly ever use it, but in D6, there is a REQUEST ROLE module. Users can ask to have a role change and the ADMIN an grant it. I THINK... NEVER USED THAT MODULE EITHER...

This has been identified as a feature request for the d6 version and I'm not likely to write the functionality into the d5 version so closing this issue ... feel free to reopen if you have a patch to review.
