Here is a patch to add ability for using title/description for attachments. It adds two textfields for title/description so it makes the attachment area take up some more space.
If title and description has been set, attachments are linked with TITLE otherwise filename is used as before. Patch also adds another column for extension since this might be needed when filename is no longer displayed.
In edit mode the old behaviour filename/link is used, patch adds on more row for count of files and sum of filesizes.

tostinni commentedI thought I made a comment, but it seems not :(
Well, what a bout getting a way ton configure if description would be onmouseover or an new column ?
I don't like very much onmouseover popup because they are a little slow and you must pass your mouse over to see it. If you have a bunch of files, it's very slow to check all descriptions out...
Maybe off topic, but what about adding an icon for the file type ? (should I open a new feature request for this ?)
Thanks for this very usefull module ;)
