The MongoDB VDB Provider lets Drupal’s AI Search module store and search content embeddings in MongoDB. Embeddings are numeric representations of text that let a search understand meaning rather than just match keywords. With this module, a visitor searching for “red fruit” can find pages about apples and strawberries even if those words never appear. It also supplies the retrieval step for AI chatbots and assistants that answer from your own content (RAG).
If your organization already runs MongoDB or MongoDB Atlas, you can keep vectors there instead of adding a separate vector database service.
Features (planned)
- Registers MongoDB as a Vector Database (VDB) provider for the AI module, selectable when you create an AI Search server in Search API.
Planned use cases:
- Semantic search on a Drupal site backed by MongoDB or Atlas.
- AI chatbots and assistants that need accurate context from site content.
Requirement to be aware of: this will need a MongoDB deployment that supports MongoDB Vector Search (Atlas, self-managed MongoDB with the search process, or a local Atlas CLI deployment). A standard MongoDB server without it can’t run vector queries.
