when enabling the module, if the fields already exist, an error is thrown. Such an occurance would happen if the module is enabled, disabled, then enabled again.

Great, thanks for the patch. Committed.

Note I had trouble reproducing the bug. The module's uninstall routine should remove the fields, so re-installing should not show any errors. I'm guessing this might not be the case if you have added the advpoll fields to another node type before uninstalling.

Regardless, guarding against pre-existing fields when installing is a good idea.
