Hi Michelle, I'd like to offer to help as a co-maintainer of the D6 branch of Advanced Forum.

I have 3+ years Drupal development experience, and have had several patches committed to other contrib modules. I am in the process of applying for full project access for one of my own modules, but I wanted to get my offer into your issue queue right away rather than waiting for the outcome of that.

I think Advanced Forums has a really important role to play in the Drupal community. I have worked on several projects where the weaknesses (or perceived weaknesses) of native Drupal forums has led to problems of one sort or another; particularly the pain of bolting a third party forum onto a Drupal site.

So, I would like to support your efforts to provide decent forum functionality in Drupal.

Looks like you have a good history and I definitely could use the help. I never meant to stop coding on Advanced Forum but my focus really is on Artesian Forum at this point and it's really hard to spare much attention for this.

A few things to keep in mind:

* Troky is in charge of the D7 branch. If you decide you want to do anything there, please discuss with him first.

* It's up to you if you want to maintain the 1.x branch but please don't add features to it as it is stable and in use on a whole lot of sites.

* The 2.x branch needs to get done. I would suggest avoiding adding any features at this point unless they are small enough they are unlikely to introduce bugs or it's something you need for your own uses. The main focus should be on getting out a stable 2.0.

* If you do add a new feature or fix something that is still an issue in D7, set it to "to be ported" so Troky is aware of it for D7.

* I'm still around, not completely abandoning the module, and can answer questions if needs be. I'm not actively coding it so no worries about keeping the branch in synch with me.

At some point, Artesian Forum will be pulling in chunks of Advanced Forum and will, eventually, replace it. That's a long way off, though, probably more than a year, so don't worry that anything on Advanced Forum is wasting time as it will be used for a while yet.

I'm not at a point where I would feel comfortable bringing in co-maintainers for Artesian Forum, yet. When I get that far, I'll talk to you and Troky and see if you're interested in joining me there.
