Yes, we needed to remove that link since it confused Drupal's menu system (because multiple menu items were linking to the same path in the same menu). A quick poll in several places (issue/IRC) revealed that almost no one was using that link anyway, so we were able to fix an annoying bug and also remove some clutter.
oh ok, i been using admin link often to check for needed updates and site problems, admin link seemed to be the only menu that would it let me know these things. I guess I can go use the site report link then.
