My "Who's Chatting" block seems to list the users who have opened a chat, but have logged off for some considerable time.
If several visitors are on the site but not in a chat room then It would be great to have a block like the "Who's Online" block showing just a list of who is in a chat room and have that update in real time

Hi,

Provided you have remote authentication enabled, the Who's Chatting list should be updated whenever a user logs in; however only new users logging in are updated.

Additionally, the who's chatting content is refreshed periodically through Drupal's cron hook; the timing of which may or may not be adequate for all of our customer's needs; especially if configured using Drupal's recommendations (only once per hour!). For the time being, please ensure that you have enabled cron jobs within Drupal. See: http://drupal.org/cron

We understand this system requires more attention, and should be fine tuned to ensure that Who's Chatting list refreshes occur once every 1-5 minutes.

A real-time refresh is, unfortunately, not currently feasible. As each Who's Chatting refresh requires a call to the AddonChat servers, a busy site could quite easily cause severe load on remote servers as the content would be loaded from each user accessing your Drupal CMS.

While we're awaiting to see if any changes will be made in Drupal 7's CRON/Scheduled Tasks system, we are considering discontinuing use of the Drupal cron hook in favor of built-in system to more smartly (and regularly) update the Who's Chatting list.
