Problem with Main Menu and Menu Block

I have started to use the Adaptive Sub-theme for the first time and using menu block v7x2.3. The problem i am experiencing is that i have a main menu title called services, for any sub page under that i was hoping that the sub menu's would appear in the menu block - which they do. However, the sub menus still appear in the main menu block (see pic attached). Does anyone know how to disable the sub pages from appearing as child's within the main menu navigation so that they only appear in the menu block on the sidebar-second.

The reason for me adding the menu block into this region is that is give's me the active trails function in the css so that i can style up the active primary navigation for usability. if i disable this and use the off the shelf display then i just simply get a list of links whereby the css does not render active trails. Hope this makes sense.

I've attached a PDF screen shot and explanation what i am trying to achieve, all pages under services should only appearing in the services right-hand block.

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
