I just installed the latest release (at www.szteachers.com) & there isn't one thing about it that works correctly. I had an earlier release that simply wouldn't make ads "active" after they'd been created, but I uninstalled it & installed the latest version in hopes that it would fix the problem. Now, this is what's happened:
1) Yes, it's all been enabled with permissions correct....Drupal 5.1...latest release of the ad module
2) When I create an ad (any ad, be it text or image, I've tried both) & hit submit, one of two things happens. If it's a text ad, it says ad created, but then there's no ad. At all. When I create an image ad, I receive this message:
Image validation failed, unable to mark ad as active. Setting ad as pending. If you do not see any more errors, you should now be able to set your ad as active.
With both problems, when I go back & edit the ad, none of the previously typed in information is there, but has been replaced by this question between Input Format and the pending/active selection box:
Style of ad: *
image
text
Select the type of ad that you wish to create from the above options.
3) I've enabled embedded ads on every page of my site, as well as run the module-provided blocks for all active text/image ads. When enabled, the blocks say "No ads found". Nothing appears in the main content area at all.
4) Under Administration/Content Management/Ads/List....no ads are listed, though I've attempted creating three or four.
5) When I search the page source for adserve.php to debug the whole thing, adserve.php doesn't show up at all in the page source....which is strange because I ran it just fine with the previous release I had installed. So my apologies for not being able to give an accurate debug report. I can, however, provide this:
6) When I check my log report, two things of note pop up. First, this one, which seems to be quite inaccurate:

If there's any other information I can provide, I'd be more than happy to. I've been struggling with this thing all day today & it's killing me. Thanks so much for any help you can offer...I really look forward to getting this working.

jeremy commentedIt looks like your installation of the ad module failed for whatever reason. Try disabling ALL ad modules, then uninstalling them all (which will cause any residual tables and variables to be dropped), then reinstall them. When you reinstall, watch for any errors. Once reinstalled, verify that all required tables were properly created, which includes: ad_clicks, ad_hosts, ad_owners, ad_permissions, ad_statistics, and ads.
Note that above I'm telling you to first disable, then uninstall. You must disable the modules before they will show up on Drupal's uninstall page.

JordanD commentedOh man, uninstalling only gave me the white page of death. & when I reload the module list page, it repeats "testest (one of the ads I created) has been deleted" about 100 times---with all the ad modules still listed under both the list page and uninstall page.
I'm completely lost, ha.
The ad_image, ad_image_format, ad_notify, & ad_text tables are all still listed in phpmyadmin.......?
Aaaand....according to my logsheet, this has something to do with the localizer module....I'll see what I can do to get it straightened out, reinstalled, & then report back...Thanks a ton for your quick help!

JordanD commentedOkay, now it seems that for some reason, Drupal thinks the ad modules are still installed, when none of the tables exist. When I go to the uninstall page, it only shows "Ad", but when I try to uninstall it, it just goes white. The log sheet output is as follows:

(Same for the ad_host, ad_owners, _permissions, _statistics, & the simple "ad" tables)
Any advice on manually uninstalling it? I can't seem to find anything else on here after a quick look. Thanks again.

jeremy commentedManually look in your database for the 'ads' table, or any tables that start with 'ad_'. If you find any, drop them.
You could also flush it out of the system table with the following command:
mysql> DELETE FROM system WHERE name = 'ad';Comment #5
AndrewPayne commentedI am having the same issue, except that I am only trying to create image ads.
I have deactivated, unistalled, and deleted the module files. I went into mySQL control panel and verified that the tables were gone and then re-installed.
I am consistently receiving this error message:
"Image validation failed, unable to mark ad as active. Setting ad as pending. If you do not see any more errors, you should now be able to set your ad as active.
Your Advertisement has been created."
I am able to upload and attach images via the upload module to other content types (such as pages) but not through the advertisement module.
This post (http://drupal.org/node/174595) suggests a work-around of changing your image settings... but that did nothing for me as well.
Does anyone have anything on this?

jeremy commentedThe main issue being reported was due to an improper uninstallation of the module. Closing.
