This is an extremely useful and well tought-through module.

Are there any plans that this could be ported to Drupal 6?

If not, what would be the challenges? (i.e.: what part of the code would be hard to fit/make work with D6?)

Sorry for keeping you waiting this long... however now with D7 being around for so long and D8 around the corner - I think there's little to gain by porting to D6.
