All other modules dealing with the file replace issue are not ready for Drupal 8. How about this sandbox module?

This sandbox module will definitly not work with Drupal 8 as it was developed using Drupal 7 API and has not been ported. I don't personally have any plans to port it at this time.

For Drupal 8 I would suggest that you check out the Media Initiative as that aims to address needs like file re-usability that are still not solved by core. I'm not totally sure about the state of things there but there may be some extensions that are part of that umbrella initiative that allow for in-place file replacements in ways that were not possible in Drupal 7.

Ok, thank you. What a pity... for me it seems like a simple problem where every other solution is way too complicated...
