Drupalers,

In experimenting with BBCode, it appears that the bbcodes actually get put into the database and then are interpreted by the module as the page is read.

The upshot of that is once you start using bbcode you have to have it turned on forever (and hope that the module is forever updated with each new release). Although I guess you could convert them all via a query at a later point...

The question is... does one want to stay away from using modules like bbcode which require your commitment to them forever, or is this a pretty common thing in Drupal and I shouldn't worry about it.

A related question... In image_assist is it better use the "html" option for this very reason as opposed to the "filter" option?

I'm interested in philopsophical responses to this question as well as practical ones.

I would just stick with the filter option. Its safe, anybody could use it safely.

In the growing Drupaly Community is the BBCode a thing which will ever be ported to new versions.
