I had this case with the Gallery assist module:
Installed version: Gallery Assist 6.x-1.x-dev (2010-Nov-27)
Recommended version: 6.x-1.18 (2010-Nov-10)
Latest version: 6.x-1.19-beta2 (2010-Dec-02)
Development version: 6.x-1.x-dev (2010-Nov-27)
I've had set 1.18 to be ignored and it all went fine until today when that I got offered 1.19-b2 as an update. I tried ignoring that version too (I want to be informed only of latest dev versions), but only 1.18 is available in the drop-down menu.

klonos...minor title edit since what I ask can be achieved by comparing version numbers too (I guess).
+ it would be nice if both versions were available as options in the drop-down menu.
PS: I've filed this as a bug instead of a feature request, since the latest version to be ignored is not offered as an option thus, preventing the module from working as intended.

klonos...was bad to the eye ;)

Leeteq commentedMaybe an option like "Focus on -dev versions" could be helpful also for this case?
And/or "Ignore version x and focus on future stable releases".
(which would then subsequently ignore alpha/beta/RC releases)

klonosFrom the OP:
...that's why I filed this as a bug in the first place. I realize that looking at the title it seemed as a feature request though ;)

klonos...more descriptive issue title.

klonosMore than one and a half year later, I am really surprised that no one else finds this annoying.
