Not an idiom I've come across round Drupal, but do you think that casetracker_basic might be a bit more useful if it was scaffold rather than an example?
This patch adds a links block, with links to the inbuilt Views. The block can be filled with an overridable theme, and also contains a message on what the theme call is.
WARNING: This patch relies on a call to my earlier patch http://drupal.org/node/864004. It will bail unless that is installed.
There's a reason for this annoyance - the theme takes casetracker_page_info() so it has some useful info to work with (is this a project/case node and, in that event, what is the node data?)
The patch also contains a commented out hook_help() hack. If you want to commit, you'll have to remove this. Havn't found a nice way of presenting this idea.
