Presenting featured products in a slideshow button controlled way is awesome, and it looks like this can be achieved with views slideshow. dynamic display block module is a nice but is not a view.

Could views slideshow achieve something like that out of the box? or does it need customization?

Also Is this an interesting feature request?

It maybe possible with thumbnail hover. It won't be out of the box looking like that. It will take some theming. There are issues that exist in the issue queue to try to make it easier to accomplish this. With our new plugin architecture though it may be possible to recreate this as a plugin. If you have some coding skills have a look at the 2.x-dev version specifically at the modules in the contrib folder for how to create a plugin module.
