I would like to place a PHP form interface on Joomla where users can register and have the registration data added to an existing Drupal 4.6 database.
Joomla is my primary site and can be accessed via the Internet by any viewer; Drupal is installed in a subdirectory with restricted access to administrators and/or designated users. Databases are separate. Why use both Joomla and Drupal? Joomla's template flexibility and style is preferred over Drupal. Drupal on the other hand, is essential because it is more compatiable with the CiviCRM module, which will be used for mass mailings.
The PHP form on Joomla is limited to registration data such as name, address, city, state, phone, email, etc and should be configured to post data to the Drupal database only.
Before proceeding with this solution, I would appreciate some comments and suggestions from the Drupal community.
NOTE: Please don't suggest using the CiviCRM module for Joomla or using CivicSpace.

just curious ...
but would love to know why u cant use the CiviCRM module on joomla (its 99% the same codebase) or what needs to change to accomodate your needs.
as a CiviCRM developer, i'd love to know more on why u chose the above approach

Attempts to load CiviCRM module into Joomla causes errors
We tried this several weeks ago using the "civicrm-mambo-php4-v1.2-rev3944" download, but the install fails on a timeout error. For some reason---maybe because of the module size being 4.06 MB---the timeout error occurs after 30 seconds and fails to load. Is there a workaround for this?
I've read quite a few of your comments in the forum and highly respect your expert knowledge on CiviCRM. So maybe you can help with a solution. Actually, the main reason we decided to use Drupal is because of our desire to use CiviCRM as part of a mass mailing and registration project. So I would be more than happy to find a way to successfully load the module in Joomla.
I have complete access to the server to make any necessary changes suggested. My servers are setup as follows:
Server 1:
PHP 5.0.4 - MySQL 4.1.15 - Apache 2 (Running Drupal 4.6)
Server 2:
PHP 5.0.5 - MySQL 4.1.15 - Apache 2 (Running Joomla)
Note that PHP 4 was configured when we attempted to use the CiviCRM Module as part of Joomla.
Both servers use Windows 2000.
Believe me, I would much prefer directly intergrating CiviCRM with Joomla. Just haven't been able to make it work. Suggestions are appreciated.
Civicrm installation on Joomla!
thats an easy issue to solve. Choose the install from directory option. much faster than doing the zip file upload.
you'll have to download the zip file onto your server and unzip it there etc.
CiviCRM is not really well tested under Windows 2000 (most of our user base runs it on some version of *nix). so that would definitely be a concern. also drupal integration is way more polished than joomla with regard to registration etc

CiviCRM Module loaded with error message
Thanks for the suggestion. I loaded the module, but now I'm getting the error message below when I try accessing the component:
Warning: main(config.inc.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in F:\WebGo\administrator\components\com_civicrm\admin.civicrm.php on line 7
Warning: main() [function.include]: Failed opening 'config.inc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.;C:\php5\pear') in F:\WebGo\administrator\components\com_civicrm\admin.civicrm.php on line 7
Warning: main(PEAR.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in F:\WebGo\administrator\components\com_civicrm\admin.civicrm.php on line 9
Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'PEAR.php' (include_path='.;C:\php5\pear') in F:\WebGo\administrator\components\com_civicrm\admin.civicrm.php on line 9
Any thoughts on what I've done wrong?
Can u please direct your questions to the crm-dev mailing list .
we do most of our support there and find it easier. you can sign up at:

the above seems like a windows issues. our windows experience is limited, however somone on the crm-dev list might have a solution

a bot
You should be able modify the present registration bot in Joomla to twin the information to another database or you can create a seperate bot.
I don't think this is a Drupal developer question but more of a Joomla integration question.
I would suggest http://forum.joomla.org/index.php?board=43.0
