You can try dhtml menu. DHTML menu basically convert your site menu using jQuery and added some effects to it. I think it can helps your horizontal menu, but provided you have vertical menu. For example, your navigation menu, and you using dhtml menu, and make it effect open to right, so now it's list of vertical menu open to right.

I would love to visit if you have any physical site has been set up, so I can take a look on how your menu looks like. But if I assume your theme is about the same with others, then yes, probably you can have your menu dropdown, don't care it's navigation or primary.
Spend some times on this site, and I believe you can simply find few menu modules suit you very well. There are some menu with effect just mousehover, some other when you click on parent, then the child will "slide down"! It's using jQuery, very nice effect.

I refered readme text of the nice menu module,i followed it but it didnt worked, please tell me what to do if you have any experience on it.

Is there a way to do this is CSS? I haven't been able to accomplish it for some reason. display: inline; doesn't do the trick. Maybe it's not wide enough???
I can't imagine how you can have your primary menu horizontal and it's child menu also horizontal?
What I can imagine is let say you have your primary menu along the way on top of your site, and first level of your child menus must be open vertically to down, then only second level menus can be open horizontally to right. Agree?

So I tryied dynamic persistant menu's and the menu turned up vertically if you see my sight 4twenty5.com the menu i use is nice menu's but what I would like is a menu that looks like a facebook menu white against a blue back ground and when the mouse hovers over a child pops up thats white with a blue border and blue text for child menu items, I think this might be a css issue, I have no clue where to start with css.
