Rough transcript of this week's meeting: Drupal Usability Meeting - 2026-02-27.txt
We discussed the following issue:
- #3439012: Usability review and feedback from testing
- #3427660: Make the order of menu items in the content menu consistent with the order of primary tabs on /admin/content
- #3450066: Add icons to the sub menu items available within "Create"
- #3457729: Grouping or prioritisation for items in create menu
NR and RTBC issues marked Needs usability review.
The group is actively tracking progress on these issues:
- #2860419: [Meta] Appearance page is too long and confusing
- #2985168: [PP-1] Allow media items to be edited in a modal when using the field widget with notes:
- @AaronMcHale: Issue could use some guidance.
In comment #109 the issue was marked as postponed for needing input from UX, accessibility and media initiative. Apparently there are some outstanding UX/accessibility questions (but I'm not sure what they are). This was echoed in comment #111.
Comment #144 is asking what is needed to move the issue along (the postponed state seems to be causing some delays/confusion as to how to proceed).
Perhaps we can at least take a look at what the issue is doing and provide some recommendations/guidance on how it could be implemented. - For an overall summary of the problem space see the videos in #3534039: Drupal Usability Meeting 2025-07-11 and #3535491: Drupal Usability Meeting 2025-07-18
- @AaronMcHale: Issue could use some guidance.
- #2704931: Provide Drupal root path on file system admin form
- #3163197: Allow hiding configured blocks in layout builder
- #2916876: Add visibility control conditions to blocks within Layout Builder
- #3247064: Error message presented when a BrokenPostRequestException is fired on AJAX submission can be misleading
- #3262935: Link field validation constraints don't give enough detail

rkollerI would like to discuss several issues in the context of the navigation module in hindsight of the navigation module going into the standard profile #3560117: [meta] Add Navigation to the Standard profile and recipes. and from my perspective, i still think, those should be solved upfront.
#3439012: Usability review and feedback from testing - revisiting point one in the issue summary, still a problem in the day to day usage (see also point 13 in https://www.nngroup.com/articles/menu-design/)
#3427660: Make the order of menu items in the content menu consistent with the order of primary tabs on /admin/content - the list of menu items in the content navigation block and the list of local tasks on
admin/contentis inconsistent in order and number#3450066: Add icons to the sub menu items available within "Create" & #3457729: Grouping or prioritisation for items in create menu - two related issues, both trying to tackle the problem of masked objects - masked objects mean different kind of objects for example content type and media types looking the same. there are just the labels for the menu item but no additional visual cues for easier distinguishing.
#3540337: Improve visibility of More actions menu button and related problems in the ui - the action button is for one barely noticeable. but it also cramps all the CTAs into a homogenous list, and most important on node edit forms it removes the local tasks not only on the front end but also on the back end.

rkollerwill write up the comments for the issue after dinner. and i guess i will close the issue i've opened #3450066: Add icons to the sub menu items available within "Create" cuz the group one has more participants and that way we gain more momentum hopefully. and it is the better choice anyway to continue with a single issue instead of in parallel.
