Meeting Purpose

To organize the Member Platform initiative into focused work tracks and assign leads.

Key Takeaways

  • Work Organized into Tracks: The initiative is now structured into six tracks (e.g., Event Management, CRM) to decentralize work and accelerate progress toward a Member Platform 1.0 release.
  • Track Leads Assigned: Leads were assigned for CRM (JD), Member Profile/Directory (Adam), Membership Tracking (James), and Wireframes (Scott). Leads for Events and Emails will be finalized in Slack.
  • Conreg Demo Informs Architecture: A demo of James's Conreg module revealed a key architectural challenge: how to separate core CRM/membership data from complex, event-specific registration logic (e.g., multi-day pricing, badge text).
  • Meetup Data Import is a Key Use Case: A need to import 1,500 Meetup members without email addresses highlighted the importance of robust data migration tools like Feeds or Migration for partial contact data.

Topics

Use Cases Driving Requirements

  • SF Drupal User Group (SFDUG):
    • Problem: Migrating 1,500 members from Meetup without access to their email addresses (a platform lock-in).
    • Need: A robust migration path for partial contact data.
  • Stanford University Research Groups:
    • Problem: Managing complex memberships for private research groups with varying access rules.
    • Needs:
      • Automated approval (e.g., via email domain).
      • Role expiration and automated deactivation.
      • Integration with Stanford's SAML IDP.
      • Government-level security compliance (e.g., DOD SSPs).

New Structure: Work Tracks

  • The initiative is now organized into tracks to decentralize work and accelerate progress.
  • Active Tracks (for 1.0):
    • Event Management & Registration
    • Composing & Sending Emails
    • Member Profile & Directory
    • Membership Tracking
    • CRM
    • Documentation (renamed from "Functional Spec")
  • Future Tracks (post-1.0):
    • Fundraising, Internationalization, SaaS facilitation, Theming, and more.

Track Leads & Participation

  • CRM: JD Leonard (Lead), Steve Ayers, Sven, Bob Snodgrass, Adam John
  • Membership Tracking: James Shields (Lead), Steve Ayers, Sven
  • Member Profile & Directory: Adam John (Lead), James Shields, Scott Wolpow
  • Wireframes & Mockups: Scott Wolpow (Lead), James Shields, Erica, Luke McCormick
  • Event Management & Registration: Martin Anderson-Clutz, Adam John, Erica, Rich, John, Bob Snodgrass
  • Composing & Sending Emails: Scott Wolpow, James Shields, Luke McCormick

Track Status Updates

  • Event Management: Rich is generalizing entity_registration to support any entity type (e.g., CRM contacts) as a registrant.
  • Membership Tracking: James will review a large merge request in the CRM Membership module.
    • Rationale: The current MR doesn't use CRM relationships for membership, which is critical for future access control integration with the authorization project.
  • CRM (Core): In beta.
    • Key Features in Beta Cycle:
      • Surfacing contact fields on the user entity.
      • Implementing a node_access-like grant table for contact access.
    • Postponed: Fieldable subtypes (e.g., student, employee) to avoid bundle complexity.
    • Note: Features can be dropped during beta, but are locked in post-release.

Architectural Discussion: Conreg Demo

  • James demoed Conreg, a module for managing science fiction convention registrations.
  • Key Features:
    • Configurable membership types with pricing.
    • Multi-day pricing options (e.g., Friday-only, weekend pass).
    • Badge text customization.
    • Annual event cloning.
  • Architectural Challenge: Conreg tightly couples contact data with event-specific registration logic.
  • Proposed Solution: A generalized architecture separating concerns:
    • Core: CRM for contacts and CRM Membership for organizational memberships.
    • Events: A flexible Event module with fieldable bundles for different event types (e.g., simple meetups vs. complex conventions).
    • Registration: Entity Registration to link contacts to events via registration types.
    • Integration: A form layer to combine membership purchase with optional event registration.

Next Steps

  • JD:
    • Create Slack threads for each track to coordinate meetings and async work.
    • Add Eric to the Google Workspace Drive.
  • James:
    • Review the CRM Membership merge request to align it with the project's architectural vision.
  • Scott:
    • Share the Balsamiq link for wireframes in the meeting notes.
  • All Track Leads:
    • Define the Minimal Viable Product (MVP) for their track's 1.0 release.

@0:06 - Scott Wolpow

Thank you.

@0:43 - Luke McCormick

Thank you. Somebody say something so I can see if my speakers are working.

@0:54 - Scott Wolpow

Something. They're not.

@0:58 - Luke McCormick

All right.

@1:00 - Scott Wolpow

I can hear you! Now I can hear it.

@1:03 - Luke McCormick

All right, good. I saw how I ended up with like five different sound outputs for my computer meeting set up here, and so I never know which one it's going to go to.

@1:30 - Scott Wolpow

I had the fun of my friend, he got his daughter a Windows 11 machine, told me he just needed help installing something.

He didn't tell me he was setting up a brand new machine. Windows 11 insists that you have a network first before you do anything else.

If you had F10, a command prompt pops up, the keyboard doesn't work, and the Wi-Fi wasn't working, so I had to move everything to another room, plug into the router.

You have to go around and get it. A Cat 5 cable, a Cat 6E cable. Got that to work.

They, of course, have to sit up a Microsoft account. What a pain in the , man. What a total pain.

And then I find out she doesn't have speakers. I'm like, how are going to play games and not have speakers?

And so I finally got it all set up and all updated. But they have to get a Wi-Fi booster.

Because it's an older building, not an old old building, but old enough where the Wi-Fi doesn't go through two walls.

Because the walls are actually plaster with, you know, metal inside as opposed to sheetrock. Yeah, we have all these new buildings in my area.

And it's all sheetrock. It's all junk.

@2:57 - Luke McCormick

I have the same loyalty towards Mac that I do. Towards Drupal, because it works the same way. I spend most of my time on a Mac and in Drupal bitching about it constantly, seeing all the things I hate about it, complaining, thinking.

And then every so often I'll try something else. I'm like, oh, that's so much worse.

@3:24 - Scott Wolpow

James, good morning, everyone. Good morning. Good afternoon to James.

@3:30 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Good afternoon, James.

@3:32 - Scott Wolpow

Hi there.

@3:39 - Luke McCormick

Martin, it's always a pleasure when your meetings get canceled.

@3:45 - Martin Anderson-Clutz

And for no one more than me, so.

@3:51 - Scott Wolpow

Well, my Thursdays is nothing but meetings. After this, have one on MongoDB searching videos, which I'm needing for a project.

dude. Good And then I have a networking thing, so it'll take me to 2 o'clock, so it's a three-hour thing at my desktop, straight.

@4:12 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Well, I will invite everybody into the meeting notes. just put a link in the Zoom chat if you didn't see the ones in the Slack channel.

Hop on in there, plonk your name down.

@4:24 - Scott Wolpow

A test? Yes.

@4:29 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I have faith, Scott, that you can pass this test.

@4:35 - Luke McCormick

Time will tell. Hey.

@4:55 - Scott Wolpow

So, what have you all done?

@4:58 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I have... I have a quick question for everybody, and that is, is there anybody on the call that you see who you do not already know?

You don't have to say who.

@5:15 - Bob Snodgrass

Just wondering if we do introductions or not.

@5:23 - Scott Wolpow

Hearing mostly silence. All right. There's at least one person's note-taker who doesn't seem to be here.

@5:31 - Luke McCormick

Oh, no. No. No, I stick with that.

@5:35 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Caleb's.

@5:39 - Luke McCormick

I don't know Caleb, but if they're not here, then I don't know their AI either. The note-taker's been very reliable at joining.

I'm going out to have breakfast with the note-taker after the meeting, so we'll...

@5:55 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Just wait.

@5:56 - Scott Wolpow

don't they're forming a union or the AI. There you go.

@6:02 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

So let's kick it off. First, any quick topics or questions before we jump into discussing tracks and all the things related to the different tracks or areas of interest?

@6:16 - Luke McCormick

Well, I'll be totally true to form and hijacked just right from the start. I find myself deeply in a member situation.

Tonight's the first meeting of the online San Francisco Drupal users group, as I think some of you have probably noticed.

And I've got, like, I realized just today that, like, holy cow, I've got a lot of, like, crossover with member platform questions to go right now.

So I'll stop hijacking now, but throw me a spotlight later on and I can talk about them.

@6:57 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Honestly, I would suggest we start there. Because I think the tracks discussion is very open-ended and will lead into lots of discussions about all sorts of things.

So I think if you've got a use case or problem set you want to talk about, think that'll be a good way to jog everyone's memory about what all we're talking about and what it can do.

@7:16 - Luke McCormick

Yeah, I apologize because I have what I think is like a stunningly appropriate member platform question that occurred to me like minutes before me.

I was about to come to me, I'm like, oh my God, this is like exactly that thing. So, so, and Steve, I saw you, heard your appearance on the Talking Drupal podcast last week.

And the thing that got mentioned there was that not everybody in the CRM and in member platforms were public message wasunt.

So them to It was camera. it Is necessarily online, you know, they might be part of the group, but they don't necessarily even have an email address, much less can be relied on to, you know, interact with a web system.

And it occurred to me that one of the things I'm struggling with right now fits that exactly, because SFDoug, which I'm inheriting, is largely, you know, a meetup group.

And we kind of hate meetup. We want to leave meetup. And we're locked in because they caretake the email addresses.

You can get a list of your members, but they won't give you their email addresses, obviously, just because otherwise you could leave.

And so you're stuck there. But I do have, I can export my 1500 meetup group members, everything except their email addresses.

So there you go. I've got 1500 people. I've Many, most of whom, I don't have their email addresses, but I do have other information.

@9:04 - steven.ayers

have like what meetings they've attended. Their social security number. Their mother's maiden name.

@9:10 - Luke McCormick

Their pin codes, actually. When they're not home, where the valuables are.

@9:16 - steven.ayers

I wonder what websites you were on. I don't think it was meetup.

@9:19 - Luke McCormick

Right, right, right, right, right. But so this is like a good example of this because I have a ton of relevant information about people.

Notably, even though I don't know their email addresses, I could have a list of, you know, several hundred people who I can show have opened their emails.

That's one of the things that happens behind the scenes, right? You know, and you actually have the names of the people that, you know, open an email or interact with it some way.

So, so even like, you know, obeying PII stuff. It occurs to me that with this data, I can compile a list of people whose email addresses I don't have directly, but who I can reasonably claim are active members of the group.

you know, I might be able to, you know, half of them I actually have in my personal address book, right?

I could just fill in working email addresses, but, you know, as a group moderator, that'd be not, you know, very sensitive about, you know, how that could be perceived.

But nevertheless, you know, it says balance. Anyway, so that's the use case, right? Like where specifically, you know, I'm missing a ton of necessarily associated email addresses, but I do have significant signs of life for lots and lots of As file format, you did meet up, give them to you, man.

CSV. Okay.

@10:59 - steven.ayers

So, so.

@11:00 - Scott Wolpow

Quick question with emails, because I'm about to hit this very soon.

@11:04 - Adam John

In Drupal, which we use. It looks like Luke froze. No, no, I just stopped moving.

@11:12 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

And, Scott, just want to make sure your question is going to be about Luke's comment, not in a different direction.

@11:18 - Adam John

Oh, okay.

@11:19 - Scott Wolpow

Well, Luke mentioned about opening emails, and we can put that off for a little while. What tool are going to use to see what emails can open if we use member platform to send an email blast?

@11:33 - steven.ayers

I think you should put a feature request in the visitor's queue.

@11:37 - Scott Wolpow

Okay.

@11:41 - Luke McCormick

Steve, did you want to speak to Luke's use case more?

@11:43 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Was there a thing floating in your head there?

@11:47 - steven.ayers

I don't think there's any blocking issues preventing you from maybe importing stuff with feeds or migration. That being said, I have not tried to import anything with feeds.

And Luke's face Or migration, so give it a try, and if it doesn't work, or if it does work, open up an issue in the CRMQ.

@12:10 - Scott Wolpow

I would guess there might be a challenge.

@12:12 - Adam John

interested in that use case. Sorry, my connection is worse than I thought it was. But that use case, Luke, I have a couple of them very similar to that, where they're known majority good, anywhere from a couple thousand to five or six thousand users.

And I don't have emails for, you know, about 30 or 40% in one case.

@12:37 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Yeah, so I mean, Drupal CRM is a very logical place to store that data. To Steve's point, we haven't tried importing using feeds yet.

I would guess we might run into challenges with getting the contact method information in, like email addresses and phone numbers and physical addresses if you have them.

Just because it's a little... ... It's a little different, but I haven't used feeds in a while. Maybe it can help, maybe it can navigate some of that despite that.

@13:09 - Adam John

I've got a test that I'm doing on local for one of those groups that I'll be able to, I don't, I did some custom feeds stuff, so it may not reflect perfectly what's in Serum now, but I'll be able to report on that probably in the next week or two.

@13:27 - Luke McCormick

Okay.

@13:28 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

You can couple something together using just CRM for now, right, and then you'll be in a good position to, you know, upgrade, if you can call it that, right, to member platform when there is such a thing.

@13:40 - Luke McCormick

Yeah, yeah, yeah, all right. I mean, I just want to inject that thought into the conversation, let you know that I've gone from being like a very, you know, wayward contributor to being, you know, deeply invested in seeing this thing work.

And, you know, I'll be taking on. On the road as soon as I can. Fantastic. For now, move on to the rest of the thing, because I'm many meetings behind.

I had no idea what the state of the member platform CRM art is, so let me catch up. All good.

@14:14 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

So I had a great conversation with Adam, I don't know, a couple weeks ago, and we talked about tracks, and Adam, I think, pushed me in a good way to label that.

And, you we can rename that, but I wanted to talk about what are these sort of tracks or epics or areas of interest or commitment so that we can do some organization, not at the member platform level, but at the sub-member platform level, right, to move some of these things forward.

In the same way that, you know, some other Drupal core initiatives, you know, have done so successfully, right? Drupal CMS has had tracks with track leaders and, you know, different teams that are sort of working on different areas of the product.

And so I feel like that is probably a good next step for us to try to decentralize a little bit and try to make some more concrete progress on specific things with people who have that specific interest.

Any initial thoughts on that direction?

@15:22 - Scott Wolpow

Well, of course, Adam likes it.

@15:26 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I'm hearing crickets otherwise. Are we neutral or are we for or against?

@15:35 - Bob Snodgrass

Sorry, I kind of missed the question. For or against having tracks? Yeah, tracks with groups of people that are working on the things that they're most passionate about without necessarily having to consider all of the things that are happening in the member platform.

Yeah, I'd be for that. I think that's a great idea. And from my perspective, I've seen a lot of people over the time that we've been working on this.

that we've of And they just, you know, they come in and out, and maybe they're not thinking that their needs might be met by this, and they don't have the time or whatever that might help them kind of slot in somewhere to have a role.

And, you know, that's kind of key to getting more people involved actively.

@16:24 - Scott Wolpow

Sure.

@16:28 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

So if we kind of look further down on the meeting notes, and I'll just repaste that link in case anybody's missing it.

We have a list of tracks. I'm going to skip over the future tracks for a minute, right, and just talk about what I think our current sort of active tracks are.

So we've got event management and event registration. Originally, I had those as two. Do separate tracks, but I feel like they're so interdependent that perhaps that's just sort of one thing, but seeking feedback on that.

Composing and sending emails to members, member profile and directory, membership tracking, which is not strictly needed for member platform 1.0, because we've said that we would just treat every contact as a member for 1.0, but there's high current interest in that, and it's complex.

So CRM, wireframes and mockups, and the functional spec, which kind of spans the others, right, but kind of actually more strictly documenting what it is we're talking about so that everybody can be on the same page, and also so that folks can review something written down and poke holes in it.

So I guess two questions, one, are there any other tracks that we feel like... . . . . Should be on this active list that we are actively working on, primarily for member platform 1.0.

And two, there's a list of tracks up here of potential tracks, I'll call them, right? For things that are future tracks, not something that we're working on for 1.0 or not working on yet.

@18:22 - Bob Snodgrass

I'd like to make a recommendation that maybe we, instead of having functional spec, have documentation as the name for that, because it kind of folds over into whatever we do for functional spec would be part and parcel of the work that we're all doing.

So each functional group probably ought to have a role in documentation as well. So, very sensible.

@19:02 - Scott Wolpow

What are the thoughts do folks have on the tracks themselves?

@19:10 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Before we get into these authors involved.

@19:13 - Martin Anderson-Clutz

I agree that at least at the start, having event management and event registration as a single track makes sense.

It might be that once it becomes better defined, that there might be subgroups off of that that want to sort of go off and do separate things.

But I think at least initially it makes sense to keep those together.

@19:30 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Cool. All right. Well, just for the sake of putting it in people's minds, if they're not actively looking at it, so some of the future tracks, right, that we're not focused on now or yet include communication channels.

So, you know, communications going out via things other than email and how that gets managed. Fundraising campaign management and donations, something that has come up previously.

Internationalization, which is something we've said is important to the project. Software as a service facilitation to help us reach non-technical membership organizations, just making sure that the project helps support whatever solutions might come to fruition.

We've said privacy is an important focus for the project, but we haven't really addressed that. We've had discussions around a theme, a member platform theme, whatever that might be.

Content management, when somebody hands over their credit card to pay for a service with member platform, well, how do they manage content on their website?

What is the member platform sort of solution that integrates? It's well with our other things, document process and board management, handling dues and payments, paid events, surveys, voting, accounting-related things, volunteer time tracking, member interaction like a forum or a message board or chat, and organizer dashboard statistics, things like that.

@21:35 - steven.ayers

I've got a name for the theme and a logo in mind, so everyone should be about the correct age to get the reference.

If not, go away. Members only.

@21:54 - Luke McCormick

We can even use their logo.

@21:58 - steven.ayers

Martin knows what I'm talking about. Oh, he's laughing. That's why his camera is turned off.

@22:02 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I believe that is an adult entertainment website.

@22:06 - steven.ayers

No, it's a jacket. It's a jacket. It's a jacket?

@22:11 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Yeah, the members-only jacket.

@22:13 - steven.ayers

You young kids today.

@22:16 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I swear. You knew what I was talking about.

@22:21 - steven.ayers

Also known to be worn by killers and Sopranos. Wow.

@22:28 - Bob Snodgrass

Very good.

@22:31 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

So let's go ahead, Scott. It was popular, like, in the 80s.

@22:36 - steven.ayers

Yep.

@22:37 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

So let's talk about, you know, what leading a track might look like or how a track might do something, right?

So we've got these weekly member platform meetings, right? I'm kind of envisioning that maybe there's a weekly or biweekly meeting for each track, right?

Whether that's at a regular time. Or it's sort of ad hoc scheduled, but some way for the folks who are working on that track to meet together, maybe they want to work completely asynchronously, like that's fine, right?

But just trying to vocalize like what kind of structure, right, we might be talking about here, what kind of ways people might interact.

So all thoughts welcome. All right, here in crickets, let's talk about who's interested in working on which tracks. So I plugged in some names here based on who's been sort of contributing to what recently, but this list is for editing.

So event management and event registration. On this list I have Martin, Adam, Erica, Rich, John, And Bob. And I've left myself off of all of these lists because I think I can't help but have my hand in every cookie jar.

Anybody on that list not so interested in that? Anybody not on that list interested in that? I am Cookie Monster, that's right.

We've got a lot of crickets on the call today. Or I'm just getting everything perfect.

@24:33 - Luke McCormick

Must be the latter.

@24:35 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Yeah, I think that's it. What about composing and sending emails to members? We don't have anybody who's sort of focused on that yet.

Is anybody interested in...

@24:47 - Scott Wolpow

You mean the means to do this, the mechanisms?

@24:51 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Yeah, I mean, this is about who wants to work on solutioning, right? What should the feature set be? We already have some notes.

Previous discussions here, right? And then taking it forward and proposing our next steps and getting busy.

@25:07 - Luke McCormick

Ah, . I'll put my name in there. I'm so oversubscribed. I'm trying not to volunteer for stuff because it's almost sheer death to anything I volunteer for.

@25:16 - steven.ayers

You volunteered to handle the CSV imports. Really?

@25:21 - Luke McCormick

Yes.

@25:22 - steven.ayers

I took your comments earlier about Meetup as you were volunteering to do that. Yes.

@25:29 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

No, I am.

@25:29 - Bob Snodgrass

But that's not a track. But yeah, sure.

@25:31 - Luke McCormick

Absolutely. Yeah.

@25:34 - James Shields

I mean, I'm definitely interested in that aspect. I don't. Signing you up.

@25:43 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I mean, I'd certainly be happy to be involved in a group in that.

@25:49 - James Shields

I don't think I have capacity to be the leader of it.

@25:53 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

No worries. All right. I got to build that functionality on one my projects.

@25:59 - Scott Wolpow

I don't know. Figuring out how to adapt it so it can work for this also, or what I'm dealing with adapts for both of them.

So does this become, I suppose, does this become an add-on, part of the actual module, or a separate module?

@26:13 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

So we're not, I think on this call, we're not going to talk about where do these things live, right?

This is functionally for member platform as an initiative, right? What are we going to focus on? Who's going to focus on it?

And then it's up to that group to kind of go figure out some of those things, right? And I kind of see my goal as trying to help shepherd all of those groups so that we're all sort of marching to the same beat and resulting in something that all works together well, right?

And is kind of cohesive. But there will be a larger question, right, for each of these groups, though, where does this stuff live, right?

So we'll have those discussions. We'll those discussions.

@26:59 - Luke McCormick

We'll have those discussions. We'll We'll

@27:02 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Okay. Member profile and directory. had Adam volunteer for that one already. Who else is interested in working on the member profile and member directory?

This is not the back-end kind of tracking of the memberships. It's more the how does a member view other members, right, subject to privacy controls and things like that.

@27:27 - steven.ayers

Is that a question?

@27:29 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

The question is, who's interested in being part of the track working on member profile and directory?

@27:38 - James Shields

I mean, I'd be happy to be involved in it again, but...

@27:46 - Scott Wolpow

You can add me because I'll be doing that also if the project I'm working on. So if I can contribute that back, that would be a good thing.

@27:57 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

All right. Anyone else remember profile and directory? All Very good. On to membership tracking. So I've got James, Sven, and Steve on here based on past interests.

Anyone else interested in the tracking of members and wanting to contribute to that?

@28:17 - James Shields

Yeah, I'm definitely in there. Fantastic.

@28:23 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

James is going to have 12 meetings a week.

@28:27 - James Shields

I don't think I need to be in there twice.

@28:30 - steven.ayers

You are already in there, aren't you?

@28:31 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Thank you. You're kind of fun if you were in there twice.

@28:42 - James Shields

Very good.

@28:45 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

CRM. So obviously Steve. And Sven has been very active contributing there. I've got Bob in there now. Thank you, Bob.

Anybody else interested in contributing to the CRM aspects of things? I see Adam. Adam. Thank you, Adam.

@29:07 - James Shields

I mean, I think I would have a bit of sort of on the end of how to make contacts and members sort of mesh together.

I definitely would like to be a bit in that.

@29:26 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

So you tell me if you want to be part of the group that's working on just, it's more CRM, it's the CRM, whatever the CRM specific things are for member platform is kind of what we're talking about on this call, right?

@29:38 - James Shields

Okay. I mean, I guess I'm on a number of things. So if there's enough people in that, I can leave that to them, guess.

@29:50 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I would love for you to be able to focus on all the things that you're signing up for. So I encourage your participation, but, you know, I don't want you to over.

And then we've got wireframes and mockups. I see James, Erica, Scott, and Luke there. Anybody else for wireframes and mockups?

And what about documentation? So functional spec incorporating those wireframes and mockups, user-facing documentation. I can speak a little bit about that.

@30:31 - steven.ayers

We're using GitLab pages for developer documentation, so it's not really ideal for probably what you're talking about. Yes, Steve, why'd you bring it up?

Well, so Drupal has this directory called docs, right, on drupal.org, where you can create nodes about docs. Yes, Steve, we're all familiar with that.

So I was thinking that's where it would go.

@31:01 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Sorry, to be clear, that's where what would go?

@31:05 - steven.ayers

Documentation that is intended for site builders or end users.

@31:13 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Yeah, I mean, I think that probably makes some sense.

@31:18 - steven.ayers

I also think it probably doesn't make a lot of sense to put a lot of effort into that until we're closer to a release candidate.

Just things will change less then than they will now.

@31:33 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I agree.

@31:34 - steven.ayers

until that time, I think we're more in the sort of functional requirements documentation realm, not the end user documentation realm.

@31:42 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

All right. The stuff that I pretend doesn't exist.

@31:45 - steven.ayers

That's right.

@31:46 - Luke McCormick

Well, I'm going to inject something in here. I've been, you know, I'm working with AI constantly these days. I'm a cyborg, essentially.

And I have a system that I even made a repo up on. on my GitHub for, that's an agent that automatically generates docs as you go.

And it's just so insanely effective. I actually just had experience right before this call. I was doing something with Claudex, and all I did was throw this agent into the directory, and I said, here, read this.

And then it went, and it generated the most brilliant reader. It's like a book. It's so freaking good. So it's completely painless, and the robots are going to take over.

Anyway, so that's why I put my name in there. Very good.

@32:44 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Thank you, Luke. And welcome, Eric. Thank you for joining. I know you typically have a conflict at the beginning of the call, so I wanted to catch you up and loop you in.

And we've – let me repaste the link to the meeting notes where we've been assembled. Thank you. you. Thank

We've been assembling sort of who is interested in working on which track, right, or area of focus. And so I wanted just to invite you to look at that list and see if there's an area or more than one area that you would like to sign up for.

And so specifically, we've got event management and registration, composing or sending emails to members, member profile, member directory, membership tracking, CRM, wireframes, mock-ups, and documentation.

@33:37 - Eric Wheeler

Okay.

@33:40 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

So, not to put you on the spot, you can, you know, just add yourself anywhere you're interested.

@33:46 - Eric Wheeler

I do not have edit access.

@33:50 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Uh-oh. Let's fix that.

@33:54 - Eric Wheeler

Yeah, there's a couple things here. I'll put my name under. All right. Everyone should be able to edit now.

@34:00 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

That document. And Eric, please do shoot me your email address for Google Workspace, and I'll add you to our drive so you can always access these things.

@34:08 - Eric Wheeler

Okay, great. Cool.

@34:10 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

All right, so let's move on to status of these tracks, as it were. Actually, wait, before we move on to status, we haven't really talked about sort of leadership, right, of these tracks.

We don't strictly need a designated leader for each, but I do feel like that can help, right, with somebody feeling empowered and responsible for ensuring that that group is moving forward.

So I wanted to ask, is anybody interested in leading any of the tracks that they have signed up for?

I suppose I'll lead the CRM track. That makes some sense, huh? And I'm not able to post images.

@35:00 - steven.ayers

Into the chat. So how will you see my great members-only theme logo?

@35:06 - James Shields

Cool dream.

@35:10 - Scott Wolpow

Just post a link to it, Steve.

@35:14 - Luke McCormick

You could post it into the Slack channel.

@35:18 - Scott Wolpow

Or in the word doc, Google doc. I don't think I have enough experience in developing to lead. That's my issue.

No worries.

@35:32 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I see Adam volunteering to lead the member profile and directory track. Thank you, Adam. And we'll also put this list in our Slack because we have people who are regular contributors who are not on this call, right?

We want to see who else is interested. But anyone interested here, kind of get first shot at it.

@35:57 - James Shields

I think I could... could... could... What's one I could... Try and take on the membership tracking part.

@36:05 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Membership tracking.

@36:07 - Scott Wolpow

I can do the wireframes because that's more of chasing people down than actual telling, you know, figuring if they're doing things right or wrong.

What was that, Scott? I do the wireframes because that's more of chasing people down, making sure they do it as opposed to are they doing it correctly or not.

@36:25 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Great. Love it. And I know for membership tracking, just so you're aware, James, if you're not already, I think both Steve and Sven have contributed some sort of proof-of-concept code, if you will, sort of towards that.

So definitely connect with them and figure out what is pre-existing.

@36:49 - James Shields

Is that in the CRM membership module?

@36:54 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Yes. Cool. Yes, it is. I should do it. Cool. And event management and event registration, we've got a lot of interest in activity there.

And I know Rich, who's not on the call, has kind of taken an active role in some of that.

I know Martin mentioned that he might be interested in helping to lead that. So we'll see where that goes.

There's already good momentum there. We can kind of take that to the Slack channel and see. Composing and sending emails to members.

Anybody interested in leading that one?

@37:34 - steven.ayers

I always assume that that would be a separate project. Not that that really matters.

@37:39 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Keep in mind, this is the member platform initiative, so we're not too worried about where does the stuff go yet, right?

It's just about how are we moving it forward for the benefit of the initiative.

@37:50 - Scott Wolpow

I I can take it on, but I just, you know, don't have enough experience to really do a lot of it.

But, you know, if I can help, I'll do that.

@37:58 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Thank you, Scott. Well, let's take it to... to Slack and see who else is there, so I'll follow up after the meeting.

Any other commentary on your point people for any of these tracks before we move on to status of the tracks?

All right. So does anybody have an update on event management or event registration? I saw Rich Post. In Slack.

That he did some work during the snowstorm, hoping to post some changes today, trying to schedule a meeting with Adam for next week, and I looped him in about this tracks thing.

So we'll facilitate you all getting together as a group. And so just so everyone's on the same page, Rich is working on generalizing the feature set of the entity registration module to support any.

The entity, for example, a CRM contact, as a registrant for an event. And Rich also has a number of projects in the event space that we might seek to leverage to have a common representation for what an event is with fieldable types that, you know, member platform could leverage for what we're talking about.

All right, so composing, sending emails to members. I don't think anybody has any updates on that because nobody's been very focused on it, although we could go and look at some of the past documentation that we've developed around some of these things if we are interested later.

Member profile directory, I think we've just sort of got a concept in wireframes so far. Anybody else? And we've got some, you know, past discussions and stuff we've written down, but does anybody have anything else for that topic?

the nature particular topic? We've And membership tracking, maybe Steve and James, do you want to speak to what's been done so far and what the current status is?

@40:15 - steven.ayers

Scott has a merge request out there in the CRM membership project that I've looked at but have not tested.

There's a lot there. It does need some work, but I don't know. Maybe I'll merge it.

@40:37 - James Shields

I could certainly take a look at the merge request. Maybe see if I can, or can you see it?

I've been, I mean, a lot of my focus has been on my own project, which is called Conreg, which is

It's a standalone thing, but my vision would be to make it be a layer on top of CRM and CRM membership.

But yeah, I'd be happy to take a look at that merge request and see what's there, and then Steve might be more confident merging it at that point.

Sounds good.

@41:32 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Stakes are also low at this point, given that there are no users, no releases, right? Like, it's just, it's sort of the ground floor there.

Stakes? I missed the joke. I see people giggling, though. Oh, well.

@41:53 - James Shields

You mentioned there'd be stakes available, and we're all kind of hungry.

@41:57 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Ah, low stakes. Ah, yeah. Yeah. Thank you. Boo.

@42:01 - Luke McCormick

Boo.

@42:02 - Scott Wolpow

My six-year-old daughter would really enjoy that.

@42:05 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Whenever she sees a pun, she goes, pun! It's adorable. Okay, next up, CRM. Steve, you want to talk to us about what's going on in the CRM land?

@42:17 - steven.ayers

Yeah. We're in beta. In terms of what we're going to do in a beta-like cycle, we've got three issues that are features.

Sven is working on one of them. So there's another project called Contacts that uses users for contacts. And that's probably because, you know, users are reference places and where do you want to put the data and that sort of thing.

And so this is a long way of saying, you know, I want to be able to surface the fields on a contact.

onto the user that it's mapped to, so it can be shown in display, like form displays and view displays, and the view system already lets you do that, so I don't really need to reproduce that, but, right, it sort of settles the question of where should I put this field on the user or the contact, and it heavily favors the contact, since you can then just surface it.

It also provides a better interface for the user editing their own contact data, right, if you're some sort of administrative type, and you edit all types of contacts, you know, it may not matter for you, but if you're only able to edit your own, right, probably a better interface, then go to this random URL, and, you know.

Nice one. Any questions on that? Okay. So, we also then have one. One on just contact access, right? If you've used nodes, there's node access, and there's a grant table, and we're implementing something very similar.

So if you're familiar with that, this should be familiar to you as well. There's also this other issue about how do we provide fieldable subtypes, which are different from bundles.

That one is put on postponed. It's probably the most not complicated or difficult, maybe difficult, if not technically challenging, just how do you want to cut this baby in half, for lack of a better word.

But we do need a way so that people can be shown as students or employees in the associated field.

Those particular types are shown, but still having a single entity. true. may personal So, Whenever told The other thing we're going to be able to do in the beta cycle, which we can't do in a release cycle, is drop features, right?

There's some stuff we may decide. You know what? That made a lot of sense, like, last year, but is kind of, like, not great today.

So we should probably, in conjunction with the documentation project part, sort of go through and figure out what does this thing actually do, and is there anything we want to get rid of?

Because once we hit release cycle, it's sort of, like, locked in. I don't know. That's my update.

@45:45 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Thank you, Steve. Anybody have questions, comments? All right. know. know. know. know. I don't know. I don't know. I think one of the things to note, right, is as these different tracks are working on things, right, we will discover where things belong, right, and so there's a possibility that something might belong in CRM itself, right, or maybe elsewhere in the CRM ecosystem.

So these status updates for the tracks will help everyone align and just get on the same page, and going forward, we will have more status from more of the tracks because we will have the tracks having met, right, and discuss things and have something to share.

Wireframes mockups, I don't think we probably have any updates on that. They exist. Anybody who wants to contribute to the wireframes and mockups and does not have access to do so, please shoot me your email address, and I'll invite you to our Balsamiq.

And if anybody can, if somebody wants to dig up the link to that for anybody who's not familiar. That would be handy.

Documentation. A long time ago, we started sort of functional specs and stuff, and we kind of need to get back into the swing of things there to document what are our goals, right, for what we actually want to develop for 1.0.

I think a lot of that will be led by the tracks, right, like what is the sort of MVP for each track to deliver, minimal viable product, so that we deliver something good at a reasonably small level of scope so we can get a 1.0 out the door for member platform.

And I think something that the documentation team could probably do is maybe gather all the things we've documented in various places and get it all in one place, maybe, so that everybody has one place to go to find the stuff or at least understands where the stuff is and then figure out kind of how do we

Get that stuff updated over time, taking into account all the work people are doing in the tracks. Okay. So I think we've sort of exhausted most of our tracks discussion apart from next steps to schedule co-working time or meetings for each track.

Does anybody else have comments, questions, concerns regarding tracks? All right. So how do we schedule time and coordination for these tracks?

Does anybody have thoughts on that?

@48:35 - Bob Snodgrass

Bob? I do. Maybe we should, within the member platform Slack, on Drupal, start out a tracks list and communication starts there.

Asynchronously, open time for people to throw in.

@48:59 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Thank you. We'll see. Thank So, yeah, so kind of an initial thread per track to kick off the group and coordinate, you know, any meetings and next steps there.

@49:10 - Bob Snodgrass

I think that makes the most sense. I don't know about anybody else, but looking at my list here of what I've signed up for, I don't need more meetings.

I'd rather be working on specific tasks and have a way to feedback for the group.

@49:30 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Sounds good. I think also, you we can set up the member platform issue queue with, you know, different, I forget what the right label is for, you know, the area, right?

But we can have the issues grouped by area, right? Like a meta for each one in the issue queue?

Yeah, I was thinking, though, I mean, for the actual individual issues that people are working on, right? They could have their own issues that are categorized.

But, yeah, mean, meta issue would also help. know, Thank

@50:01 - Bob Snodgrass

To sort of summarize what people are working on and what the next steps are now.

@50:11 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Okay, sounds good. Next, we've got sort of 10 minutes left. I know, Scott, you had a question that we didn't get to earlier.

Do you want to ask your question there?

@50:22 - Scott Wolpow

Ph.D.: Yeah, I just, and it's probably a little premature, but I'm planning out to do it anyhow. Scott Ph Is where do things add on?

So let's say we want to add something in, I mentioned the RSVP function, where, you know, you're having an event, you send out an email, they're not members.

I know that's not a member platform 1.0, but if I build a module, where does that go? trying to figure out where in the ecosystem does it all fit in?

It may not be a decision that's made yet.

@51:01 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Is your question, Scott, I guess I'm trying to parse your question.

@51:08 - Scott Wolpow

So let's say doing the emails, we'll do the email functionality. So would the email functionality be part of Member Platform Core, or is that an add-on, or is that a separate module that calls on Member Platform?

@51:24 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

You're asking from the perspective of folks working on Member Platform, where will they build such functionality? Or are you asking from the perspective of somebody using Member Platform, where would they add custom stuff?

@51:37 - Scott Wolpow

No, so on building the functionality into Member Platform, where does it go? Then the other part, the usability, becomes a secondary answer because that's invisible to the user.

@51:53 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Yeah, mean, this goes back to, I think, a recurring question and theme, right, of some of our discussions, which is, you know, where does this...

@52:05 - Adam John

I was saying in chat that he's citing a feature or feature set that doesn't have a home yet. I think maybe a bucket for that somewhere makes sense.

I like the thinking. We just don't have enough architectural fleshed out at this point to create a home. But if we have a feature set bucket, then we could do something like that.

@52:29 - Scott Wolpow

All right.

@52:32 - Adam John

It's good thinking and great questions, Scott. Thank you.

@52:36 - Scott Wolpow

Could you clarify, Adam, when you say feature set bucket, what are you referring to?

@52:39 - Adam John

Like we're talking about tracks. It'd probably fall into a figure this blank out kind of a bucket, kind of a track.

@52:48 - Scott Wolpow

So what I'm saying is being built, but it's not ready to be plugged in. Where does it go? But that's one aspect.

The other aspect is Adam, does it go in? As part of the actual inner platform core functionality, or is that a separate module that someone selects to add in as a feature?

Yeah, and that's something that has to be kind of worked out with the community, the people that are interested in having or creating or contributing to that, right?

@53:16 - Adam John

So I think that's what that kind of track does, is flesh out that, hey, this is a functionality that either exists somewhere else, it's incomplete, or net new, or whatever the category is.

And then the vetting and conversation around, does it fit in the project? Where does it fit in the project?

You know, architectural type questions. And that's useful as it becomes, as the whole set becomes more mature as well.

So I think it's a very valuable area to bring up, Scott. I don't know if that approach makes sense for us, JD.

@53:49 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Yeah, I mean, I'll also get on my soapbox and say, philosophically, I believe that we should be moving as much as we can upstream into dependence.

dependencies, right, that can be used by things and projects that don't use member platform, right? So if we've got a useful set of functionality that is going to be a key part of member platform, it should live somewhere where other projects can benefit from it, right?

So we see that with CRM. CRM lives in CRM. CRM membership lives in CRM membership, right? We might have a CRM events, right, that's about event tracking and event registration for contacts of CRM, right?

And a lot of these things may be incubated and contributed to by the member platform team. But, you know, I kind of see, like, what is specific to just member platform as being a much smaller set of things that's more sort of opinionated pieces, configuration, that kind of gets you, you know, started and up and running while taking advantage of great dependencies that we are, you know, actively contributing to elsewhere in the ecosystem.

That's a long way of saying, I don't know. OK. Anyone else have any other topics before some just general co-working time that we traditionally have for anybody who's interested in continuing after our official meeting time ends?

@55:30 - Scott Wolpow

Very good.

@55:32 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Well, I'm going to stick around on the call here and figure out what I'm going to work on. If anybody else would like to, I'm happy to work on whatever you're interested in working on.

So take advantage.

@55:46 - Luke McCormick

I'll do a verbal addition to the thing I just threw in the chat tonight. As a lot of you already know, it is the first new occurrence of the San Francisco Drupal users group.

Good evening with Matt Glamon presenting on Drupal Canvas, which was released yesterday. So how do you like that for serendipitous timing?

Since we've had this scheduled since November. But it's my member group, so you can see a member group in action.

I think technically Canvas was released a few weeks ago.

@56:29 - James Shields

So it was CMS2 that was released yesterday. Is that right? Was it released, though?

@56:34 - Luke McCormick

How was it released?

@56:36 - James Shields

Oh, maybe I'll click that now. I mean, there's been betas and it's the close and available. I thought there was a stable release of Canvas.

@56:45 - Luke McCormick

Anyway, that's correct.

@56:47 - steven.ayers

He gave the first demo of a stable release at Fox Valley Meetup in December of 2025. Would you Would you to also tell us what they had for dinner that night, Steve?

@57:03 - Luke McCormick

Pizza.

@57:04 - steven.ayers

Pizza from across the street.

@57:09 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Luke, I've got a question for you. Where do we deliver our PII for you to store somewhere questionable for your meetup?

You were talking about you've got all this PII from all of your... Oh, he's conveniently frozen his video here.

@57:26 - Luke McCormick

No, just thought, does everyone else move, like, am I the only one that does that? I get accused of that all the time.

From the SFDoug page website, there's a link to the meetup group, and the meetup group will take your information, including your email address, but will give everything except for your email address to me.

So it's like that.

@57:51 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

What I found in organizing both New York City and now Austin meetups is we have to very consciously get people...

We to RSVP off of Meetup to start to populate that email list. Meetup is still useful for gathering, you know, awareness and stuff, right?

But we're always like, you got to register over here. You know what?

@58:15 - Luke McCormick

That could be sort of a, that could be like a use case for a member platform. Like identify, you could use Meetup and keep a list of the people who you only have connection in Meetup and bug them with every meeting to add their name, add their thing somewhere else.

@58:35 - Adam John

Well, there, there is a Meetup API. So, mean, it's potentially at some point, a sub module that could be incorporated to manage your groups and your events and your RSVPs and that kind of automation and integration.

@58:49 - Scott Wolpow

Bye, everyone. got to go.

@58:51 - Adam John

From, from, from a member platform. Hey, see you later, Scott. All right.

@58:56 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

We need a track lead for that.

@59:00 - Adam John

It's exactly the kind of thing that goes in that, hey, let's figure this out, Bucket, and then it's probably a track, but I don't know if there's enough interest.

I can't lead it right now, but I can certainly help.

@59:13 - Luke McCormick

It's an interesting question to see if the email address is exposed in the API, but it's not. I don't think it is.

@59:20 - Adam John

No, I think it would be everything else around it, like what you're able to export, because it comes down to how they have to legally deal with emails, and they've probably gotten nailed by some lawsuits or something.

It's not the legal.

@59:34 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

It's a business decision on their part. They want to lock you into the platform, 100%. Oh, that's a good point.

If you pay for Meetup Pro, then from that point forward, any new members, you have access to their email address.

Maybe take news Dailycho is-

@59:53 - Luke McCormick

Okay.

@59:54 - Adam John

That's a platform lock. Got it.

@59:59 - Luke McCormick

I don't really blame them. I mean, most things like Meetup have died because they couldn't make money. So, you know, it's tough out there.

@1:00:09 - Adam John

Steve? That's fair.

@1:00:12 - steven.ayers

I hate to put somebody on the spot, but now I'm going to put somebody on the spot and just ask if they want to share their particular use case for membership, which is a little different than the Meetups that I've discussed.

So I know, Eric, your use case is a little bit different. If you don't want to share it, that's fine.

@1:00:32 - Eric Wheeler

Yeah. So right now I have a Drupal 7 site. That needs to go somewhere, but there's a lot of research groups at Stanford.

Some of them are private research groups. The biggest one we have is called SystemX Alliance, and they work with, like, DARPA, and they have people like Google and Yahoo and Intel pay them hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to get first access to private research.

And there's things like when a company joins, everybody needs to go and make an account. So if they want 20 people to have an account, then 20 people need to go and sign up, and then they have to be approved by that.

Like, what would be nice is if you could prove your address was at intel.com, and then you're just automatically approved, and you can get in, and there's no other problem with that.

Then there's also a lot of faculty research. Church groups with students that come and go and they need to be added manually to these websites, need to be added manually to like wiki pages, added manually to get all sorts of kinds of access.

But in a university environment, like I think the CRM and membership platform would be wildly successful if it could solve several of these problems.

Also, most universities, like Stanford, are already using Drupal for everything they do. Like our integration with the Biblio module, too, would be because that is every professor uses that that runs Drupal for the research.

But yeah, that's where I'm. And Steve sent me a message, and I think that all makes a lot of sense, I think, to enable that stuff for it.

But this is really like a longer process to kind of get all this functionality. There's also, I forgot about, there's also a lot of research groups.

There's this new thing called AI Hub, Northwest AI Hub. And their whole goal is to make computer chips in America or in the United States so the United States doesn't have to rely on them.

And all of this happened before all of the craziness that's happening right now. This was already a plan before any of that.

But they have other requirements because they work with government, specifically the DOD. So, like, right now, we host these servers and, like, a drive for them and Drupal for them and everything.

And it's behind a locked door that you have to sign in and out if you go in there and only specific people right now.

There's only me and my boss that are allowed access into it. So that's a whole other thing is conforming to government, you know, standards for security and stuff like that and SSPs and all this stuff.

So it's kind of a lot, but I think CRM membership platform could really solve a lot of these things in the future.

@1:04:58 - Adam John

Yeah, love you. You're sharing the use case there, Eric. That's fantastic. I put, you know, certainly some overlap there as far as experience and exposure to different.

@1:05:14 - steven.ayers

I have a question about your use case. Right. So let's say I work at Intel at some point. I'm able to log in.

And then at some point I no longer work at Intel. How do you verify that, like, I no longer work there or still work there?

@1:05:30 - Adam John

Well, that you're a you is the most important question, I think, Stephen, right?

@1:05:35 - Eric Wheeler

Yeah. So right now we use. It's kind of so this I started this site on Drupal 7 beta. That's that's how far back this goes.

And I used we use rolls. building. bit And we'll expire. So after a year, it expires. So, yeah, actually, I'm answering that question wrong.

It's a manual process. Okay. But we still expire them and have to go in and re-enable them after we know they paid and everything like that.

So, but that doesn't solve, like, if Intel is no longer paying them, we have to go in and block all the intelligence, right, or delete them or something.

So that is an interesting problem to solve.

@1:06:43 - steven.ayers

And you're still on Drupal 7, you mentioned, so you have to migrate.

@1:06:47 - Adam John

Yeah.

@1:06:49 - Eric Wheeler

I don't know if you guys can hear me.

@1:06:50 - Adam John

know I've been having some connection things. I But I've been In most of the cases I think Eric was talking about there, it's a matter of forced exit from the group, but I think there are cases where it's a collaborative community-based research, and so even if you go from one company to another, you're still allowed to be a part of the group.

So there's a set of roles and conditions there that is important, Steve, in my opinion. Certainly, if you have thoughts there, Eric, feel free.

@1:07:18 - Eric Wheeler

Yeah, there's also, so some, like SystemX Alliance, they're, if you're a Stanford employee, you have access to it as well.

So I, there was a lot, I can't even remember how it all really works anymore, but there is multiple ways to like log into it, one of them being SAML with Stanford's IDP.

So that's another thing is that, like, with certain ones, if you're Stanford, then you get free access to whatever you want.

And then there's also the storing media because they have these videos they post that are, like, four gigabytes. And there's little – so we opened up – we made our own, like, kind of CDN for them.

And so it's, like, it gets really complicated and you probably see why I'm still – they're still on Drupal 7, and I just kind of ignore it most day-to-day as long as it works.

@1:08:41 - steven.ayers

Thank you for sharing, Eric.

@1:08:45 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Steve, you want to ask anyone else for use cases or was that the – has your goal been met?

@1:08:55 - steven.ayers

I mean, everyone else has discussed use cases that were very similar, so I just wanted to make sure that we got other voices.

And then this is just Stanford. It's unrelated to the Hoover Institute.

@1:09:16 - Eric Wheeler

Yeah, I mean, it's just Stanford, like Northwest AI Hub is more complex because it's a group of universities that are all kind of working together to do this.

Right now, there's a main website that links to a bunch of other websites. All these universities have their own, like, Northwest AI Hub thing with different solutions and different ways of doing this.

So they're not really connected except for in very long, boring meetings.

@1:10:02 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Thank you, Adam. He's on his way out. Appreciate you.

@1:10:07 - Adam John

Yep, thank you.

@1:10:13 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

So, is there anything else that, is there anything that people would like to work on specifically? Otherwise, I will come up with something.

Yeah, I need to drop.

@1:10:26 - Eric Wheeler

I found that, is there somewhere where you want me to post the balsamic link so people just kind of have it somewhere?

@1:10:35 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

You could stick it in just as a link in the meeting doc would be good.

@1:10:41 - Eric Wheeler

Okay. Yeah, thank you. Wherever we reference wireframes is good. Yeah, okay. Thanks, right.

@1:10:51 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Thanks, guys. James, do you have some more time, or are you on your way out?

@1:11:02 - James Shields

I have a little bit. Just starting to look at the CRM membership art request.

@1:11:14 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Do you want to do that? Do you want to share your screen? Do you want to talk things through?

I don't know. Build, help build my understanding of what's going on there?

@1:11:33 - James Shields

No is an acceptable answer. Good question. just, so at the moment, I've just got the changes on the merge request open.

I don't I Quite a lot in it. That's about as far as I got. Right.

@1:12:02 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Do either of you know, because Steve, builds on what you did know. It's separate from what you did, right?

@1:12:09 - steven.ayers

Well, I don't think I pushed that code forward, or maybe I did. I don't know. Well, it's not using a relationship to handle the membership between the person and the organization, which is important, just in terms of how I was planning to have.

Right. We've got access we're planning to allow through a relationship. So, right, eating our own dog food, but also I just need to make sure that there is a quick and efficient way to integrate it with the authorization project, right, so that you can grant roles and group membership.

It's based off of memberships without, you know, better to integrate with the existing Drupal ecosystem than roll our own.

@1:13:02 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Sure.

@1:13:07 - steven.ayers

I think it's based off of the design, though, issue.

@1:13:16 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Let's see. We lost James, but I'm going to guess that he might come back.

@1:13:27 - steven.ayers

Yeah, try to get your note taker to take notes before meetings start. Because, right, I'm expecting, well, I guess you probably don't read the notes.

Never mind.

@1:13:38 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

The notes from the meeting? Yeah.

@1:13:41 - steven.ayers

No, not so much.

@1:13:43 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

But they're very useful for referencing, you know, going back to and searching for something that was mentioned, like.

@1:13:52 - steven.ayers

For the 36. Sixth week in a row, Steve has mentioned the evils of communism.

@1:14:01 - James Shields

It'll be an interesting search to see how many times communism has referenced these.

@1:14:06 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Although to be fair, you save most of those references for our one-on-ones.

@1:14:10 - steven.ayers

I save most of those references for when it's just me and the note-taker. That's what I do when nobody else is here and it's just me and the note-taker.

Elaborate on the evils of the system.

@1:14:31 - James Shields

I attempted to share my screen and it killed Zoom. But yeah, there's certainly a lot in Merge Request that's there.

So I was going to try and open it locally and... And run some testing and have a bit of a play with it.

@1:15:01 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I'm just checking if Sten happens to be available to join our call. Because I notice he's green on Slack here.

Wouldn't that help expedite things?

@1:15:23 - steven.ayers

I'm still confused how we call them Dutch as in Deutsch, but we call Deutschland Germany.

@1:15:33 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

It is confusing. But I know how to say good morning in both languages. And no, I'm not going to share.

@1:15:52 - steven.ayers

Most references. The Dutch and English are pejoratives. You can think the two wars in, I guess, the 16th century, maybe 17th century between the British and the Dutch.

It was ultimately solved by this Dutch man becoming the British monarch. But yeah, most references to things in Dutch or in English that are Dutch or pejoratives.

Ah, and Sven has joined. Excellent. He hasn't, but...

@1:16:37 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Oh, okay. I was like, what are you talking about?

@1:16:41 - steven.ayers

I'm just saying in terms of timing. mean...

@1:16:46 - James Shields

I'm just saying in terms of I don't I don't I don't know.

@1:16:52 - steven.ayers

I don't know. I don't Well, I think I'm going to drop because I have billable hours I need to log.

@1:16:58 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Boo! Bill this to someone we don't know.

@1:17:07 - steven.ayers

I am more than prepared if there are financial resources out there to spend full time working on this. But until those resources present themselves, I need to make billable hours.

@1:17:23 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Indeed. Very good. Thank you, Steve.

@1:17:31 - James Shields

Great. So, yeah, I suppose what I'm going to do is look at the...

@1:17:39 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

this down locally and... See what it does. See what it does, exactly.

@1:17:47 - James Shields

And... And... certainly... You A lot of stuff.

@1:18:08 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I'm interested in at the names of these things, but yeah, go ahead.

@1:18:11 - James Shields

Sorry, no, I would probably have split it into smaller merge requests myself, but.

@1:18:22 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Yeah, I mean, my, I almost wonder, well, hold on, where's the stuff that Steve did already? Let me find that because that's kind of the big question is like, which one do we start with?

All right.

@1:18:44 - James Shields

I think that's the next step. I mean, there's, there's Ben's one that's got a merge request. I presume the other.

It's the other branch on that issue would be Steve's then.

@1:19:04 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

There is less there in Steve's for sure.

@1:19:10 - James Shields

That's quite a lot. So is Sven's based on this one? No, they were both started independently.

@1:19:29 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Sven accidentally didn't notice there was already work. But my guess is that Sven's is probably further along. But that there's stuff that we're going to need to pull out of Steve's.

@1:19:46 - James Shields

Okay. Because my own project. I have, so I have my own project, I think I've mentioned, I started it on GitHub before I knew anything.

@1:20:08 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

You got a lot more traction once it was on Drupal.

@1:20:13 - James Shields

So basically, I've pulled it into, I've pulled it into a Drupal project. And, where are we?

@1:20:32 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Are you using Airtable as your membership database?

@1:20:36 - James Shields

No, it was, so I've, about a dozen issues that, that, that, that have been, actually no, it's more than that.

Servus TV. There 20 issues that are fixed or closed, and a lot of them were without me doing much of the actual work on them, which is nice.

@1:21:04 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

That's nice.

@1:21:06 - James Shields

So my general strategy is sort of try and create small issues that fix one thing and quite a lot of – sorry?

@1:21:24 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Well, was just going say, actually, flipping the script a little bit, do you want to just demo Conreg for me?

Would that be an interesting thing, just so I can understand what that is and thus some of the use cases?

@1:21:39 - James Shields

I can – let me give – just let me find – Um – Let me give you some... Let me give you some...

You So let me see if I can. Okay, last time I tried sharing screen, it killed Zoom, so let's see what happens.

SCREEN SHARING: James started screen sharing - WATCH

Fingers crossed. Right. Right. So basically, this is a DDEV test site of it. So the basic registration form. It's intended to be sort of a very configurable membership form, so you can say I want to register two members, and I suppose the usual, the science fiction conventions usually go with the terminology of that you register as a member, you don't buy a ticket to it.

@1:23:33 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

In other words, members can attend?

@1:23:36 - James Shields

Yes, although a lot of them, there's kind of a long time being a concept of what's called a supporting member who is somebody who might get some of the benefits, but somebody who's...

Who's not able to make it to the convention, but, you know, I mean, a lot of the conventions, when they're running for many years, you know, the people like to come every year, but then if there's a year that they can't make it, they still like to do something to show their support, and they like to get the program books and things like that.

@1:24:13 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

There's kind of the conference membership and the non-conference membership.

@1:24:17 - James Shields

That sort of thing. then there's, and then it's kind of a lot of, during COVID, a lot of them had moved into sort hybrid models, so they will have kind of virtual attendance and things like that, which also muddies the water a bit.

So anyway, but basically, I mean, most of this is fairly self-explanatory, but I don't know. I'll just run through.

I think you're picking a random name, and so one of the things is to avoid kind of multiple people, people try to try and reduce people joining multiple times.

And it kind of, some of the conventions using it do a model where you can do it as an anonymous user, but most of them now are using it as kind of, we have a login step that, so you log in as a user, and then you can register multiple members if you wish.

So I'm just. Just going to show you, and then you can, we can, you can configure different membership types.

We'll just go with standard, and then there's things like, so there's a public list of members, so you can say how you want to be listed on that.

You can say how you want the convention to communicate with you. You can pick a country that you live in.

can, sorry, you can fill in your full address. A lot of conventions don't actually have any reason to collect it.

Exactly, so a lot of them will just take the country. And the email address is optional for... So basically, for the first person who's joining, this won't be an editable field, it'll be the user who's logged in, but when you have already registered a number of people, it'll show you who you've already registered, and then the additional members don't have to have, so basically, it's not required for additional members.

And you can basically say what, people at science fiction conventions get very invested in what's printed on their convention badge, so important feature there, yeah.

And Oh, yeah, and you can say, I'm at the same address as the first person. And then, basically, when you say pay, it's going to do a strike payment form.

Let me see. And then, it takes you back to, oh, that's a bit weird. Bug. I may have been, this is on a site that I've been, or on an instance that I've been doing some changes on.

So I may have broken something. I will just. So once you're registered, what do you see? So there is a, I don't have a, yes.

So there should be, I don't have a, on this site, I don't have a menu link for it, but you can go to a member portal where you'll see all the people that you've registered, and it's showing you've registered these people who aren't paid yet.

So I suspect I know what I've broken, but.

@1:29:39 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

That's all right. And so when configuring, when configuring this, what, how do you configure the membership types?

@1:29:49 - James Shields

Yeah, so, so basically there's, there's a whole lot of. So this is where the configuration stuff happens. So there's kind of lots of stuff on the kind of overall event details, probably too much.

But on the member types, basically say that, so this is kind of an internal name. This is the name that's displayed to the user or to the person joining as a price.

We can set that. We can only sell, you can set that there's 50 memberships available at this price, if you wish.

And...

@1:30:51 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Is the badge type? Sort of a built-in concept here, or is that a custom thing?

@1:31:00 - James Shields

It is a built-in concept. So, again, go back to this page, it says member information. And this isn't a great way of configuring it, but that's what it does at the moment.

And so a lot of these things that are currently basically just a text box that lets you edit a list should eventually be entities.

@1:31:41 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

And so, you know, just thinking about CRM and tracking memberships and stuff there, right, using relationships. So just spitballing here, if there is a member-of type that connects a person, as a member of an organization, and they, then there's sort of a, there's the, well, I guess what I'm trying to think through is like, where does all this stuff that you're showing me belong in that realm, right, like in that scenario?

@1:32:44 - James Shields

I mean, at the moment, the concept of a member in, in here is kind of a combined. And contact and membership.

And so one of the things that is definitely on my roadmap is separating contact and member parts.

@1:33:12 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

And I'm just sorry, I keep interrupting you. But in this scenario, you've got... I guess in this scenario, when people sign up as a member for the year, right, they're choosing a membership that is for attending the conference or is not.

Right? Yes. But I guess is there a separate step where you understand if are they really, really attending the conference?

You know what I mean?

@1:33:48 - James Shields

Like, ah, well, so... Or is it that they don't sign up for the membership until they're sure they're going to attend?

It kind of depends on the individual because... You get a lot of badges not picked up at the conference because people just want to support the conference?

You get a few, and you'll get some people who'll turn up and realize, oh, I've only got a supporting membership.

I need to give you more money, but we have a thing which is a check-in page. Yeah, so you can kind of...

I should have a better label on that, but if I put... I'm sure... sure... sure... So I think it will show, so if you had registered yourself and family members, and I put in your name in the search, it will then show me all the people you've registered together so that you can, but your future state, you're saying, would be track the people as contacts, track the memberships as, we'll call them CRM memberships, right?

@1:35:40 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

And there is also this concept of, like, the event registration, right? Like, might you have a membership, might you have a form that kind of combines?

Is the membership with the event registration as far as what's under the hood? I think so, yeah.

@1:35:58 - James Shields

Some concept of an event with registrations for it? I mean, I would like for conventions that, you know, there's conventions that are, so some of the conventions using it are one-off conventions.

So, we'd kind of like, in that case, to kind of keep the, keep it as kind of, you know, they probably don't need to see the kind of distinction between the contact and the membership very much.

@1:36:35 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

But, in the case of a, in the case of a one-off convention, is it hosted by an organization that would have a list of contacts that they are communicating with in advance of their registration?

@1:36:51 - James Shields

Oh, some. I mean, mostly not, I think, but, I mean, there's always complications. Like the, the case that I suppose would do is, so the, the World Science Fiction Convention, which I think is in LA this year, but basically they are, they, they, when, when you go, when you go to, when you're a member of Worldcon, you get to, you get to basically vote for where the Worldcon will be in two years time, and if you, if to do that,

You have to pay a voting fee, which is generally about $50, and when the voting is finished, regardless of which candidate convention you voted for, you will be automatically, what used to be called a supporting member of that year's Worldcon.

I think they've changed it now to World Science Fiction Society member. And the convention get a list of all the people who did that, so it's kind of...

@1:38:40 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

And is the convention not hosted by that organization that manages the voting?

@1:38:48 - James Shields

No.

@1:38:49 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I think it's like a local group that hosts it, but it's a global group. That's kind of it, yeah.

@1:38:56 - James Shields

So there's the World Science Fiction Society, and then each individual Worldcon will tend to be its own entity, which may be associated with a local group in the area.

@1:39:23 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

It's hosting it, but it's sort of like a chapter relationship, but not exactly, because there might not be a legal relationship between the two.

@1:39:35 - James Shields

Yeah, it's kind of, and because it's in different countries, I think it's kind of like the Drupal Association Federation aspect, that different countries will have different rules on.

Thank That's kind of it, yeah. So there's the World Science Fiction Society, and then each individual Worldcon will tend to be its own entity, which may be associated with a local group in the area.

It's hosting it, but it's sort of like a chapter relationship, but not exactly, because there might not be a legal relationship between the two.

Yeah, it's kind of, and because it's in different countries, I think it's kind of like the Drupal Association Federation aspect, that different countries will have different rules on.

Thank On kind of how organizations can work and things like that. Would it be fair to consider the global requirements as just completely separate from the requirements of each of the individual country groups, let's say?

Probably. mean, I think, you know, I think what would probably be, it would probably be a case of export from the main one and import into the relevant.

Yeah, mean, I have no idea whether, I mean, I think, I mean, I think the, so for the actual voting, it's.

@1:41:55 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Yeah, I mean, I don't know whether that would be built on, I suppose it would be nice to have the goal, I suppose, of being able to build the voting system on member platform and then somehow, but yeah, I think the winning convention would definitely have their own IT system.

@1:42:22 - James Shields

So you could have a situation where the voting was happening on member platform and then it would be just a case of it gets exported to whatever system that the winning convention is using or the winning convention is using member platform and it's getting data from a third party voting system.

Or they're both doing. It's on member platform, and then we could hopefully have a streamlined process that data would come out of one and into the other, but it's kind of...

definitely feels to me like member platform would be a good use case, like would serve the use case of each, right?

Particularly when we're talking about like offering voting later and member platform, right? Things like that.

@1:43:22 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

The connection between the two is interesting as well.

@1:43:25 - James Shields

That feels more like a data export, data import, you know, kind of thing, as opposed to maybe something more integrated, although interesting.

Yeah, but I mean, the other angle is there are kind of annual conventions using Conrad that... And basically at the moment, the members of each year's event are kind of separate from each other.

Yeah, the angle

@1:43:53 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

So, you know, that you basically, you register as a member for this year's convention, then you register for next year's convention, and there isn't really any link between the two.

My ideal would be... Where's the membership list stored? Is it like in MailChimp or something? It's stored in a member, you know, basically in a members table in the Drupal database.

But it sounded like you spin up a new site for each convention? No, sorry, for each, you know, separate convention entity, spin up a site, but for each year's convention, of a multi-year convention, it would be...

So basically, there is a concept of an event. So, sorry, if I share this again. And actually, sorry, if I go up here.

Basically... So this is where my 2026 event versus my 2027 event. So I can basically clone this into the 2027 event.

Got it. And that basically, so if I go, I mean, at that, what I actually wanted to do was, so, so, okay, I possibly need to do.

That clones a lot, but it doesn't clone the signup. doesn't clear, well, it doesn't clear the cache by the looks of, or it doesn't delete.

So, sorry, if I do flush cache, I suspect I will have two events in here. So, yeah, so, so, so, so basically then I can figure.

Thank So basically, we'll have a copy of the same stuff, configuration from that. And if I want to change my prices for this year, I'd have to go and do that in here.

@1:46:19 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

And then, but then, so basically then, people would register for this event, they'd get the same, they'd fill in the same details.

@1:46:32 - James Shields

So one of my nice-to-haves would be that, you know, that you register for this year's event for the first time, and you'll be entering your name address.

@1:46:53 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Whatever details we need for yourself and any family members. And then next year, you'll come along and it'll be kind of pre-filled.

Some way of basically saying, I want to register this person, this existing person for this year's event. But when I book an airline ticket, and I've previously booked an airline ticket for somebody, it lets me choose their name.

Yes. It fills in their information, yeah. That sort of idea that it'll basically, and I suppose you might want to say some detail, some of their details have changed and update that.

But essentially, that you'll be able to pick the same person again. And so this member...

@1:47:53 - James Shields

Supertypes here would correspond to CRM membership types, right? If we had sub, if we have types of memberships, right?

I would think so. And then I think there would be a, so there would be a relationship type, right, that is like member, right?

That presumably would reference the membership type, right? That is what we'd be configuring here. The membership type is where you add all these fields, right, to customize what makes a membership type a membership type for your use case.

Then I see days down below. Is this because different membership types give you access to different days content? being arenat — Thank

So you can configure, so basically you can configure, so at the moment, so by default, it will just on the registration form, if I go to, so if we enable this, and, sorry, let's say, normally you put a more descriptive label, but let's say you wanted to say, we're charging 15 if you want to come on Friday only, there should be 50 there.

Five, and let's

@1:49:53 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Say, if you want to come just on Saturday, we'll charge you $25. And let's say Sunday's a slightly shorter day.

So if you only come on Sunday, we'll only charge you $20. And so if I save that. I'm to make you choose a text format.

@1:50:25 - James Shields

Oh, right.

@1:50:30 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Which I guess ideally you would just hide if you're not overriding it, right? I'd agree.

@1:50:36 - James Shields

That's definitely a needs work area.

@1:50:40 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

I have a feeling, unfortunately, I have to do that for all of the different types. So, yeah, I should make it so that.

So, I guess. In my mind, I'm trying to think through, because I know you have this kind of combination concept of membership and event registration going on here, and it seems like for some conventions, you're really just dealing with event registration and calling them memberships, right?

And in some cases, you truly have a membership, which there may be a benefit of one that is that you can register for the conference, and maybe you combine those steps in that case or something, right?

Yeah, I get you. Sorry, so just I'm just trying to think of like a membership for a given convention.

@1:51:47 - James Shields

I don't To me, I would think the membership is Yes, thank you. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye.

You It's something that you either have or don't have for a given year, right? And if you're only talking about, if the total duration, right, of, if the lifetime of the website is just for one convention, right, like, it almost feels like you don't need this concept of membership, even if you call it membership, right, like, under the hood, it's just event registration, basically, right?

Yep, I guess, yeah. If that website's going to continue for years or, you know, across multiple events or whatever, right, then perhaps you have this concept of membership, you have this concept of registering for each event, right?

And there may be a relationship between the two as far as a benefit of membership is that you get a discount when you register for the event or something like that, right?

Definitely, yeah. Teasing together in my head, I'm trying to figure out, like. Yeah, but I would also think that in terms of.

Yeah. Okay. Okay. Cool. Thank If you want to, if you have a local cycling club that has an annual fee and you wanted to do that, this wouldn't be very hard to adapt into a form that would let you renew your membership for your local cycling club.

@1:53:19 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Sure. But anyway, was just going to say, if we do select adult now, it basically selects, says what days you want to attend for.

So if you don't do, if you don't click anything there, it assumes you want, you want to come for the whole weekend.

If you, but, wait a moment. I need to uncheck that. Yeah. So basically it's showing you what, what, what your price is.

So if you come for Friday and Saturday, you're charged 40 instead of 50.

@1:53:52 - James Shields

If you.

@1:53:56 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

So Saturday and Sunday is 40. If you select a combination that would cost more separately than to come for a whole weekend, it will automatically turn it into a weekend membership, so it won't charge you.

Nice. So I'm trying to think about how to separate the bits and pieces of this so that you can reproduce this, right, using a CRM-based solution, a member platform-based solution.

So I'm seeing, like, there's the concept of the representation of memberships and membership types.

@1:54:41 - James Shields

There's the event registration aspect. And then what I think is sort of the novel requirement, from my perspective, that you would need to reproduce this is the marrying of the two.

And figuring out how do you offer this, it's really kind of the form, right? It's just kind of the form of like, how do you combine, I guess, on the membership form, depending on what membership type you select, also registering you for an event.

Yeah, I agree. It's kind of like, I guess, just to generalize, right? It's like, the feature is optional event registration as part of the membership sales process, whatever.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm thinking about as well. And so I think, I mean, I think... When, when, but I mean, I suppose the other thing that I am very vague on how to do is that it basically will need to ask you for, assuming you're not, you know, assuming you're, you've no listing contacts, you know, it basically needs to give you a form that lets you sign up, a contact, and you I mean, I would consider, I don't, I mean, I, I don't know whether, whether we would consider, whether, whether this would come into event registry, event membership at all, or whether, that, whether we'd, I mean, basically, the, the, the convention is, is the organization and membership of the.

@1:56:53 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

The organization, in principle, lets you attend the event, but there's kind of different membership, there's certain types that have attending rights and don't, but I would kind of see the event registration as a bit separate, or at least for a single event convention.

Are you saying that you prefer to keep it separate rather than what you're showing me here?

@1:57:26 - James Shields

No. Or you're saying in some cases? I kind of was just seeing the, well, I kind of, at the moment, the concept of an event we've got in member platform, you know, it's kind of like a, like a monthly meetup or type of event.

@1:57:49 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

And, and...

@1:57:52 - James Shields

And...

@1:57:53 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Um, well, it's this, this, this, you know, that the convention membership feels more like an organization membership than a, than a, than than a, a monthly, a monthly meetup attendance.

So let me throw out there. I think there are three things here, right? There's organizational membership. There's, um, infrequent periodic major event, right?

Typically multi-day with a bunch of complexity to it. And then there are simpler, you know, events that might happen weekly, monthly, whatever.

Yeah. And in fact, um, you know, a lot of the conventions do have things that you could consider events outside of their, their, their, you know, their, their main convention, like, um.

Meeting up with people in your city before you go to the main thing or whatever. Things like that. Yeah.

And, um, you know, that, that, that, that, that, um, because, so, so here's kind of what I'm thinking, right?

If, if, if, um. Member Platform uses a more generalized concept of an event. Maybe it's in the event namespace in Drupal, right?

That has fieldable bundles, right? So you have different types of events. One of those types of events could be this sort of the convention, right?

The convention type, right? Which then gets associated with it, all of the things you need, right? The complexity you need for that convention.

And then separately, you have the more boring event type, right? That's simpler, right? And they both can leverage, right?

The ability to have contacts registered for each, right? With different types of event registrations associated with each event type, right?

Which covers the, well, yeah, you know. And then, so I think that kind of covers all the bases, is kind of what I'm thinking.

That's like high level how it all fits together, right? makes sense.

@2:00:06 - James Shields

An improved entity registration facilitates the ability to register the contacts for the events. An improved event module gives the ability to have different types of events.

@2:00:23 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

Entity registration still has that concept of registration types, right, for a given type of event.

@2:00:33 - James Shields

And, you know, CRM provides the linking of a user to their contact and the, eventually the access control mechanisms, right, to allow somebody who is registering other people, right, to be permitted to do so.

If there are existing contacts in the system, like if they can select their existing contacts they're associated with, they have a relationship with, they are a representative for, a manager for, or whatever.

Yeah, think that all makes sense. Cool. I've got to run in a moment. Thanks for sharing. This is great.

It's really interesting to see. And this is an impressive set of configuration and options you've got here. is... Yeah, but yeah, it's sort of, wish I'd known a bit more about, you know, doing it as things like fieldable entities when I'd set up it originally.

@2:01:44 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

But, so my, you think it's going to be a bit, you know, I think my first step is trying to get...

Get kind of what's there kind of under control and get things like coding standards passing.

@2:02:03 - James Shields

But I mean, my initial reason for moving on to D.0 was to use the test pipelines.

@2:02:17 - JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)

And, you know, I've already got sort of, I mean, my tests at the moment are fairly simple, but they're kind of surprisingly effective at catching sort of when you break something that's going to affect a whole lot of stuff.

They kind of catch quite a bit. So it's useful. Yeah, no, very cool. Very cool. On the project page for ConRig, just a suggestion slash request to.

Link to Member Platform and CRM from there, because you reference them, but for people who stumble upon your project, they may not know what that is.

Yep, that's a good idea. I'll do that today. Yeah, I look forward to seeing where this goes, and we'll catch up in the channel.

We will. Okay, nice chatting. Take care. Have a good evening. You too.
