Problem/Motivation

I decided to write a documentation page on Set[ting] up a local environment for developing Elasticsearch Connector 8.0.x, and while doing so, I've discovered a few things that I can do to make it easier for me to test the module.

Proposed resolution

So far...

  1. Sort and update composer.json require/require-dev links.
  2. Sort lines in .gitignore, delete old ones (e.g.: behat tests) and add / prefix to avoid recursivity.
  3. Make it easier to use DDEV's ddev/ddev-drupal-contrib add-on by adding various files and/or lines to .gitignore (see #3449755: Add Ddev Drupal Contrib for ease-of-maintenance for example).
  4. Add a test search view for test_elasticsearch_index in the elasticsearch_connector_test module.
  5. Make it easier to install test data.
  6. (possibly other things) - edit: nothing else

Remaining tasks

  1. Write a patch
  2. Review and feedback - skipped as the code was contributed by a maintainer
  3. RTBC and feedback - skipped as the code was contributed by a maintainer
  4. Commit
  5. Release - in 8.0.0-alpha3
  6. Update the docs page

These changes have been working quite well for me as I've been writing the following sets of documentation:

  1. Low-level ElasticSearch debugging
  2. Developing the Facets module integration
  3. Developing the Search API Autocomplete module integration
  4. Developing the Search API Location module integration
  5. Developing the Search API Spellcheck module integration

I might also try writing some developer-docs on the following topics before merging (but I'm not sure: i might just merge as-is):

  1. Developing the Search API Decoupled module integration
  2. Developing the JSON:API Search API module integration

Realizing this will make testing #3497968: Merge multiple facet conditions using query's conjunction easier, so I'm going to merge it now.
