Meeting will happen in #contribution-events on drupal.slack.com.
Hello and welcome to this asynchronous, biweekly Slack meeting for the Contribution Events Initiative!
This meeting:
➤ Is for Drupal community members interested in how to better organize, promote, and improve contribution events. We discuss upcoming events, lessons learned from past events, ideas for increasing event participation, how to improve documentation, and more.
➤ Happens every two weeks in alternating timezones: 5pm UTC Mondays and 5am UTC Tuesdays.
➤ Is done over chat.
➤ Is actively facilitated for 1 hour, but is open asynchronously for 24 hours from the meeting start time.
➤ Happens in threads, which you can follow to be notified of new replies even if you don’t comment in the thread. You may also join the meeting later and participate asynchronously!
➤ Transcript will be exported and posted to a project issue for this meeting. For anonymous comments, start with a :bust_in_silhouette: emoji. To take a comment or thread off the record, start with a :no_entry_sign: emoji.
This meeting is run alternately by @Kristen Pol (she/her) and @surabhi.gokte. This week I am facilitating.
:zero: Who is here today? Comment in the thread to introduce yourself and let us know [insert social question, e.g. if you have any interesting plans for the weekend, what is a recent book/movie/series you enjoyed, what is a new song you like, have any fun vacation plans].
:one: Do you have suggested topics you are looking to discuss? Post in this thread and we’ll open separate threads for them as appropriate. Please use the additional threads for discussion.
:two: Space to call out any recent contribution wins and special Drupal thanks for people in contribution land.
:three: Are there any contribution events coming up that you know about? Regular events?
:four: Did you participate in a contribution event recently? Feedback?
:five: Are you looking for a contribution event to help as an organizer, mentor, or participant? Or are you an event organizer that doesn't have contribution activities yet and would like help?
:six: Do you have any resources or documentation suggestions? Do you have suggestions for where to look for existing documentation (even outside of Drupal)?
[add additional topic threads here]
:last: That's all folks, thank you for attending! :blue_heart: This meeting is officially open for the next 23 hours, so please continue the conversation in the threads above. We also welcome feedback on the meeting structure and agenda via this thread, Slack, or issue queue!
- For #1, don't copy/paste the topics exactly unless they are clear and short enough. Otherwise, summarize the information so it's easy to understand. Then start each of those topic threads with the first item acknowledging the person who suggested the topic, e.g.
[@ name] raised this. Or you can put in the thread message if preferred.
- For #3, add this for first item in the thread:
In addition to adding events here, use this issue to add new events and encourage organizers to add these to the Community Events list as well: https://www.drupal.org/project/contribution_events/issues/3281974
- For #4, add this for first item in the thread:
In addition to adding feedback here, use this issue or create a child issue to add any contribution event feedback:
https://www.drupal.org/project/contribution_events/issues/3282885
- For #5, add this for first item in the thread:
In addition to adding your interest here, use this page to signify your willingness to help at contribution events: https://www.drupal.org/community-initiatives/contribution-events-initiat...
- For #6, add these for first items in the thread:
In addition to adding your resources here, use this issue to note any resources and documentation that might be helpful for contribution events or places we could look (even outside of Drupal): https://www.drupal.org/project/contribution_events/issues/3280005
- After #6, review the open project issues to see if there are any topics that should be added for this particular meeting and open numbered threads as appropriate.

1️⃣ Do you have suggested topics you are looking to discuss? Post in this thread and we’ll open separate threads for them as appropriate. Please use the additional threads for discussion.
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
I'll add one about Global Contribution Weekend per above |
2️⃣ Space to call out any recent contribution wins and special Drupal thanks for people in contribution land.
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
Thanks to @surabhi.gokte for running the last meeting that I should have done 🙂 |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
Thanks to @Gábor Hojtsy (he/him), the #d10readiness team and other community members who contributed to the release of Drupal 10 :tada: |
| Tinto |
Organised another Drupal Malaysia Contribution Meetup where I presented about the Bug Smash Initiative and mentored some new Drupal contributors. Also helped a first-timer triage and close his first core issue. :tada: |

Thank you @Kristen Pol (she/her) with assisting me with the issue creation for this event, despite being on your break! :+1: |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
Yay! Nice work keeping up this event :tada: |
3️⃣ Are there any contribution events coming up that you know about? Regular events?
4️⃣ Did you participate in a contribution event recently? Feedback?
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
Last one was the porting day in November... I think we already did feedback on that one though... I'll check |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
In addition to adding feedback here, use this issue or create a child issue to add any contribution event feedback:#3282885: META: 2022 Drupal contribution events feedback |

We’re experimenting with the timing of the contribution events. Last one was on a Saturday, which might coincide with people’s weekend plans / off-time / family activities. But organising it on a weekday requires some people to take time off from work to attend. Bit of a dilemma. |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
Yeah… always a struggle… that’s why I wanted the last porting day to span Friday and Saturday in each time zone… though not sure it helped tbh |
5️⃣ Are you looking for a contribution event to help as an organizer, mentor, or participant? Or are you an event organizer that doesn't have contribution activities yet and would like help?
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
It'll take me a couple weeks to catch up on work/contribution which will be just in time for Global Contribution Weekend so I hope to at least participate in that in some way |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
In addition to adding your interest here, use this page to signify your willingness to help at contribution events: https://www.drupal.org/community-initiatives/contribution-events-initiat... |
| Tinto |
Hope I can spend some time participating in the GCW. |
6️⃣ Do you have any resources or documentation suggestions? Do you have suggestions for where to look for existing documentation (even outside of Drupal)?
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
This is the general page for Global Contribution Weekends: https://groups.drupal.org/node/534740 |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
In addition to adding your resources here, use this issue to note any resources and documentation that might be helpful for contribution events or places we could look (even outside of Drupal): #3280005: META: Gather documentation and resources for contribution event organization |
| gusaus |
Couple of the same ole (and new) suggestions -see if the #event-organizers group is working on similar resources (seems like there are similar goals)see if #drupal-contribution-group has similar resources (and/or needs)if there's a contributor need, see if there are interested/available folks in #documentation and/or #drupal-contribution-group if there's a funding need (i.e. to pay skilled/available contributors), focus on #3332738: Create goals and tiers on the Drupal collective and other Drupal Contribution MVP tasks |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
Yep… moving contribution event resources under the appropriate area in d.o documentation is definitely a goal… |
| gusaus |
Aware that it's been a goal and agenda item since the start. Problem is the active group members haven't had/don't/won't have capacity without additional resources. |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
Happy to have someone volunteer to focus on this in particular |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
Are you trying to get this off the agenda? Moved to EOWG? Just pointing out the issue? Or something else? |
| gusaus |
Happy to have someone volunteer to focus on this in particularThink we have a good model to pick up on and improve. |
| gusaus |
Are you trying to get this off the agenda? No - just thinking about how to make it easier for interested contributorsMoved to EOWG? Just pointing out the issue? Or something else?I haven't been participating/following meetings in #event-organizers, but it looks like they centralize event related resources in the contributor guide and related project. If my attempted summary and suggestions in the other channel made sense  possibly we can centralize collaboration in #documentation |
7️⃣ Anyone interested in organizing an online component of the Global Contribution Weekend?
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
This would need to happen fast 🙂 |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
Since people might do any type of contribution, I don't think we'd really need any particular documentation... we could just have a community events page that tells people where to go |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
The thing we would need is mentors to handle times in all time zones |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
Per previous feedback about timezones, rather than trying to do the 24+ hour continuous thing, people seemed interested in doing something like:"9am to 6pm" in some major time zones, e.g. Pacific, Eastern, CET, AEST, IST, etc.The thought is there would be less confusion regarding time zones this way |
| irinaz |
We plan to have sprint for #feeds and invite folks to join 🙂 Details will be posted in #feeds channel |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
@irinaz it would be good if you would create a community event for this... likeGlobal Contribution Weekend - Feeds Focus - Onlineor something like that (edited) |
| Tinto |
Perhaps list @irinaz #feeds sprint on this page too?https://groups.drupal.org/node/536774(Edit: correct url this time, thank you @irinaz) (edited) |
| irinaz |
@Tinto, this page seems to be from 2022 |
| leslieg |
We are considering organizing a Project Browser sprint (may just be on Friday). Will update as I know more |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
@irinaz https://groups.drupal.org/node/536774 |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) |
Sounds good @leslieg :) |
| gusaus |
https://www.drupalcontribution.org/ should also be available to coordinate, promote, and sustain contribution events. Assuming we can sort out a process and find a few folks interested/able to manage and maintain  |
8️⃣ That's all folks, thank you for attending! 💙 This meeting is officially open for the next 23 hours, so please continue the conversation in the threads above. We also welcome feedback on the meeting structure and agenda via this thread, Slack, or issue queue!
| Tinto |
Thank you for hosting @Kristen Pol (she/her)! |
