It looks like the 2.x branch is a direct copy of the 8.x-1.5 branch code. There is no history of changes within the new branch. The new branch seems to be just for Drupal 10 compatibility.

I've created a patch to test this, and will try this on a real project now.

Sure, will create issue to review 2.x alpha release followed by 2.0.0, does this sounds good?
