Currently the view title is always shown. This makes it a configurable field setting.

Nice one! This is already available in 1.x so I was surprised to notice it isn't in the 2.x branch.

Hmm ... are you sure? The ability to show or hide the title is currently available in 2.0.0-beta2, as a checkbox in field settings, delegating the option to content editors to show/hide the title. The formatter checks this setting.

But there is currently no way to globally configure show/hide the title per field instance, and no way to later override that delegation to content editors, and that's what this older related issue is about: #3224064: Only render the view title if the 'Include view title' plugin is enabled

The patch here adds a setting to the field formatter - this does provide some additional flexibility per display mode, and that may be a better way to handle overriding the content editor's existing option. But:

  • Should it be an override of the content editor's decision, and of any field-instance setting?
  • Should it only show/hide the view title if those prior settings would also show it?
  • Should it be able to override and show a view title that is hidden by those prior settings?
  • Does there need to be an option to just honor those prior settings

?

I think we need to consolidate these 2 issues.

This is a duplicate of issue 3402036

The title display is broken because of the incorrect schema. Apply the patch from #3402036 instead.
