CKEditor 5 (CKE5 ) support will eventually be added in D9

Look into adding support for this module.

I'd imagine this might be investigated, but thought I'd go ahead and file an issue, so we can follow updates.

I'm confused … ace_editor is an alternative to CKEditor 4 (or 5); it doesn't need to be updated?

To convince yourself: https://git.drupalcode.org/project/ace_editor/-/tree/8.x-1.x/src/Plugin only contains an Editor directory, not a CKEditorPlugin directory.

@wim - Good point. At one point I'd used both ace_editor and ckeditor_codemirror on different projects. I may have been overreaching on this and thinking more about codemirror's source toggle within CK when I originally filed the issue.

Looks like CodeMirror got ported over (haven't tested it).
