Original message to maintainer:
Hello, I'm wondering if there is any chance you might allow another maintainer or owner to use this namespace for a module I created called "week_field". The code is almost ready for an alpha release, I'll push it to sandbox if you'd like to look it over.
I think this module's namespace would be a really great name, it creates a new "week" type field with a default widget for selecting year -> month -> and then the week.
It includes some tokens, field formatters, and views support for displaying the dates in that week.
Thank you very much for your time!

asherry commentedReached out to @Prometheus6 again, hopefully I hear back. I'd be great to get the opinion of the original maintainer. If not I'll wait another few weeks and send it over to the maintainer issue queue.
It would be a waste to leave this namespace obsolete. I have a working version of the module that I'll post soon.

asherry commentedTurning this over to drupal.org support. I'd like to use this module for a field type/widget that handles 'weeks' specifically. This wouldn't be a specific date, it would be a way to choose a customizable label "The week of [date format]", and then filtering in views would know to filter by this date 'range', or, could easily filter other 'week' values as well.
This is working on a production site already, here's a sandbox version https://www.drupal.org/sandbox/asherry/3208278

avpadernoI added asherry as new project owner, since Prometheus6 last logged in 11 years ago. The existing project has also release only for Drupal 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x.
To be able to change project owner, I had to set the value for two project fields. Be sure the values I set are the appropriate ones.

asherry commentedThank you for your help, and thank you very much for such an incredibly quick turnaround. When I saw my name appear on the project page as a maintainer, I thought that I had already submitted this and had maintainer status the entire time!
I'm not sure what you mean by "set the value for two projects", but for me everything seems right.

avpadernoI was referring to Maintenance fixes only for Maintenance statusand Considered feature-complete by its maintainers for Development status.
