Just to point out that the module project page introduction section is a bit outdated, it's still states that:

Allow users to register and login using only an email address. Users can then log-in using their email address and password for authentication.

Its the first paragraph on https://www.drupal.org/project/email_registration

What do you propose changing it to?

I think that's still accurate if someone wants to make it that simple then it can be.

Maybe something like:

"Allow users to register and login using email address or username" ?
