In #3156572: [policy, no patch] Adopt a set of guidelines for closing stale bug reports we discussed but have (most likely) decided not to add automated closing of old tickets.
In the course of this discussion I proposed instead having an automated update to issues on a set interval, e.g. 6 months, if there are no updates to the issue, that would trigger an email to the issue followers. Perhaps only for bugs with a certain status or tag?
The logic behind it is that it might prompt the issue participants to update it, be it a comment to say 'this is still an issue' or 'oh that's right, I managed to fix this by doing xyz'.
This issue is to get feedback on whether this is worth doing, and if so, what should the message be?
Initial proposal:
"Thanks for reporting this issue. We rely on issue reports like this one to resolve bugs and improve Drupal core.
This is an automated notification that bug report is [whatever criteria we set - is postponed, is needs work etc] has not been updated in more than [whatever time frame].
Drupal relies on community contribution, and the best way to get an issue resolved is to participate. Here are some tips on how you can contribute to resolving this issue [link to docs on drupal.org]."
