... in particular, the duplicate-email bug #2866589: Duplicate emails sent (invite_by_email) is particularly relevant to the project I'm working on, and is the next commit after the 8.x-1.0-beta1 commit.

Proposed resolution

Release a new version of the invite module.

1. Tag a commit for release and push to drupal.org
2. Create a release node with release notes (feel free to copy-paste the list of issues from this issue summary), and save
3. Let drupal.org take care of the rest 😛
