Currently, Recurring Event nodes can't be put into groups because it needs a plugin for Group module. See group modules 'Configure available content' page (/admin/group/types/manage/[group_type]/content) where entity types can be set as Available Content with the Install operation then configured.

This needs to be tested.

Per #3164409: RE's Group module plugins don't work because they provide the wrong install options in Group module., this doesn't really work. See that issue for a solution.
