I'm trying to use imagecache with imagefield and the bio module, but I'm not having any luck getting the image to show at ll. Here's the setup:

imagecache 5.x-2.0
imageapi 5.x-1.2
Custom user type called Biography. Added a field (imagefield) called family_photo. Using the default files directory for storing the original file.
Created two imagecache presets: bio_small, which scales down to 150x150, and bio, which scales to 300x300. Assigned the teaser view for field_family_photo to bio_small, and full view to bio preset.
Also have the transliteration module installed, and all directories (files and below) have permissions of 777.

What I'm noticing when the image is not displayed is the HTML is referencing the correct location, but the image isn't there. For instance, it will have the path of http://www.mysite.com/files/imagecache/bio/IMG_2739.JPG, but there is no image there to display. In a teaser list , the Only local images are allowed. tag will have a path of http://www.mysite.com/files/imagecache/bio_small/IMG_2739.JPG. For whatever reason, the cached version of the file is not being written to where it should be. As I detailed above, as far as I can tell, I have everything set up properly. I know it's not a server issue, because I have an Ubercart (which uses imagecache quite a bit) site running on the same server with no problems.

Is there something else I'm missing?

Thanks.

make sure you've got a high enough memory limit to resize the files. also make sure your file permissions are set correctly.

upload_max_filesize = 2M
post_max_size = 8M
My image size = 733k

I have other sites with larger file sizes on the same server working just fine with ImageCache.

I have the same problem (with 6.x-1.0-alpha2)
... Any more hints drewish?

Hmm, could it be that it's not working because the url_rewrite extension isn't active yet on the webserver?

If so, that would be my problem!

I am having the same problem and rewrites are all working correctly. I have done a number of .htaccess tries, also, to no avail.

The imagecache folder is created in the files directory, but not subfolders or images are created after that.

After further research, I have tested this on 6 alpha 2 and the ImageFieldCCK field HAD settings for user directory path, and even after those are deleted, the settings, they are somehow still being passed to imagefield.

Ahh....FINALLY.

**MY SOLUTION**

The SITES folder had less than 755 permissions. Changed that, added this to the file system folder .htaccess.

SetHandler Drupal_Security_Do_Not_Remove_See_SA_2006_006
#Options None
Options FollowSymlinks

# RewriteEngine off

Works now! Yay!

For me this doesn't work...I've changed .htaccess and give 775 to sites folder but it doesn't put images where it has to.
I'm still waiting for a solution...
Looking on the issue queue this seems to be an high relevance problem, in fact here http://drupal.org/node/299757 you can find others who are waiting for a solution.

Did I mention I flushed all the images, deleted the files folder, and readded it, with 775?

I also deleted and recreated my image fields.

no luck here too. Anyone can help with this please? All the config, presets and permissions are as i´ve readed in a hundred of sites... but no luck...

Ok guys, this works for me too now.
You absolutely need to give 775 permission to files folder and enable clean urls!
It's wrote into the project homepage but i have not seen it. (However i Think that someone have to write that imagecache 2.x needs clean urls too).
Sorry manteiners for having bother you with my errors.
This is why it wasn't working for me.

In an attempt to clean up the issue queue a little, Please have a look at Troubleshooting imagecache MIGRATION and I'll close this issue for now. Hopefully it's OK.
