2️ *Speakers Initiative* - @mdrummond is working on an initiative to support speakers in the Drupal community. He's working with Jill Binder, who has done some amazing work in increasing diversity of speakers in the Wordpress community through workshops. Marc, would you like to share any updates?

| mdrummond | So the update is that we are working on getting some funding for this, and I’m not sure if we’re ready to share that publicly yet. |
| mdrummond | We’re talking to a couple companies who might be interested in sponsorship: one might be willing to do matching funds if other companies or individuals sponsor. So if your agency or organization might be willing to pitch in to help cover the costs of this training, we should talk! |
| mdrummond | We’re also trying to look at dates for when this might work. Right now we’re looking at maybe the end of April? But we’re somewhat concerned about if that is enough time to promote this. But we’re also concerned that too much past that and we get into the summer months when people are busy with summer vacation. |
| mdrummond | What we’re also thinking about is that this is to help people who want to get started with speaking at events, but also to help people to level up and feel more comfortable pitching and building talks. So if you’ve given a talk or even a few talks, this is still for you. The goal is to help build a broader group of people from underrepresented groups who are speaking at Drupal events and beyond. |
| mdrummond | The workshop would help people to brainstorm topic ideas, figure out a good way to pitch that as a talk, and then to come up with an outline for a talk as well as looking ahead to how to put that into a presentation. And personally I’d like to find a way to pair people with more experienced speakers for ongoing mentoring and practice sessions. |
| mdrummond | And ideally we’d like to train some of our folks to be able to give workshops like this at places like GovCon and BADCamp and MidCamp and eventually Drupal Con. Or even bigger meetups. |

| alannaburke | hey folks! if you have wanted some training on speaking at camps/conferences, learning how to propose a session, etc - check out the speaker initiative that @mdrummond is working on and give him some feedback! |

| sparklingrobots | I'm interested in attending. I have given more talks in the last year than all previous years combined, but def do not feel confident in my skills there yet. I would love help figuring out my topic, and just general speaking skills I don't have. I'm super lucky b/c my company will pretty much always cover me to give a talk but I know before this year that wasn't true and I paid for pretty much every Drupal event out of pocket. |
