Would using machbarmacher/gdpr-dump be an improvement to this module? This library is based upon https://github.com/ifsnop/mysqldump-php which has a lot of activity and maintenance...

It certainly is already part of considerations at #2931820: DB dump anonymization :-)

For the record, I made my own little module which implements this library...

Oh really? Do you have a link to it? I'm very interested in solutions that help with anonymization at source, especially any that might not need the rest of this GDPR project, which contains some decisions I'm not keen on personally.
