At least before we cannot handle image styles, we should display images as is.
It can be done by adding svg_image_preprocess_image_style() as it suggested in template_preprocess_image_style():

// to override that if they need to.

A small update:
1. Added detailed comment to the preprocess
2. Also added special class "no-image-style" for SVG images, that allow to accurately apply styles.
