Here is a proposal for a migration path from D7 viewfield module to viewsreference. We had the issue with a client, we thought it could maybe interest other developers.

viewsreference has a bug making it essentially unusable, in my opinion. There is a beta release for viewfield. I wonder what a migration path would look like for the field that module provides.
