gisleAn owner cannot transfer ownership - it has to be done by a webmaster.
Standard procedure is to have the present owner post a message here (in this thread) confirming publicly what you've agreed privatly. I suggest you reach out to him and ask him to do so.
In this case the defunct project has not been maintained beyond Drupal 5 (so it is obviously abandoned), so a public confirmation may not be required - but that is up to the webmasters.

avpadernoYes, we prefer having a confirmation from the user who is the current maintainer.
Jeff Eaton had once more permissions, and he could have been able to handle that himself, but since he didn't handle it, we need a confirmation from him.
avpadernoI contacted Jeff, asking to reply here before two weeks are passed.

perandre commentedHi, Project lead for Drupal Gutenberg here. Any news on this? Would be great to know if we can use the namespace in our presentation in Drupal Europe mid Sept.

The standard protocol is that the owner has two weeks to weight in on a transfer. If the present owner does not intervene to block the transfer within that period, transfer takes place. Now, three weeks have elapsed.
Here, perandre has done things correctly, including creating a sandbox where the code of the defunct project will still be available.
Three weeks has gone by with an totally absent owner. I think this one is ripe for RTBC.

th_tushar commentedI had tweeted to @eaton on this issue. Here is the link, https://twitter.com/th_tushar/status/1034820152175599616. Will transfer the namespace, once @eaton replies here or on twitter.

perandre commentedCan we set a deadline for this? I'm not trying to force the outcome, I just want to know when we can expect a decision to be made. Thanks.

eaton commentedHey there!
Sorry for the delay, I've been out of circulation for a bit but I'm happy to turn over the namespace. The Gutenberg theme was a VERY early experiment in mirroring Movable Type's markup, and not only is the theme out of date, Movable Type has long since moved on as well.

avpadernoThank you for replying!
I changed ownership as requested.

Any idea how I can change to module?

gisleThe old repo is already moved to a sandbox.
Can't this be solved simply by nuking the theme project to free up the namespace - then recreate it as a module project?
drummgisle - No, do not just delete projects. There are clear guidelines for this, https://www.drupal.org/drupalorg/docs/maintenance/moderating-projects-an....

drummth_tushar - #2997836: Change theme to module category has already been opened to handle the followups. Resetting this issues’s status.
